Maria Sharapova has plenty of company is her usage of a performance enhancing drug…

Athletes at the top of their game…..

Or those trying to get there have plenty of incentives to get better…And BETTER….

Ego…Competition and most of All MONEY....

While the attention this week is on a ranked Tennis player….

She isn’t the only one by far that has resorted to drugs to get an edge…

More than 60 athletes, including Olympic medalists and world champions, have tested positive this year for meldonium, the performance-enhancing drug that Maria Sharapova admitted to using, according to antidoping officials.

Meldonium, developed in Latvia for heart patients, aids blood flow and is not approved for sale in the United States. It was placed on the World Anti-Doping Agency’s banned list this year after being monitored by the agency in 2015.

“Regarding the number of meldonium positives, I can tell you that it was at 60 adverse analytical findings (since January 1st) recorded on Monday and that number is growing,” Ben Nichols, a spokesman for WADA, said Thursday in an email….

Many of the athletes who have tested positive have not been publicly identified because their cases are still being adjudicated……

Serena Williams beats Victoria Azarenka for the U.S. Open women’s title

…… Williams never lost her composure in a match bedeviled by a capricious wind and packed with brilliant shots and courageous bounce-backs by both players. Instead, she relied on her strongest weapon, her vaunted serve, and big-match savvy to vanquish the world’s No. 2 player, 7-5, 6-7 (6-8), 6-1.

Only upon clinching the match 2 hours 45 minutes after the first ball was struck did Williams let her pent-up emotion fly. Less than three weeks shy of her 32nd birthday, Williams jumped up and down like a manic toddler, raised a clenched fist and shouted, “Come on!” “Come on!” even though her wearying work-day was over.

Both players were rewarded with a standing ovation and wild applause by the 24,500 at Arthur Ashe Stadium, former president Bill Clinton among them.

After regaining her poise, the triumphant Williams paid tribute to Azarenka, whom she beat in a three-set thriller in last year’s U.S. Open final, as well, as a great opponent and great fighter.

Azarenka, 24, returned the praise as she fended off tears.

“To be in the final against the best player in the world, who deserves to win, it’s incredible,” Azarenka said. “We showed our hearts. We gave it everything we got.”

Nadal wins record 7th French Open title….

from the LA Times…

Rafael Nadal is tested, sort of, before winning again at French Open

Spain’s Rafael Nadal beat Novak Djokovic to complete a rain-delayed men’s final Monday and win theFrench Open for a record seventh time.

Down a break in the fourth set when the two resumed play, Nadal came on strong, immediately breaking back and going on to defeat the Serb 6-4, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 in less than an hour after returning to the court.

Nadal, 26, surpassed the record he shared with Bjorn Borg, who claimed six titles on the red clay at Roland Garros. Nadal ties Chris Evert on the women’s side, who was the first player to win the French Open seven times.

Nadal will remain ranked No. 2. Djokovic will maintain the No. 1 ranking.

Djokovic, 25, was also trying to make history by becoming the first man in 43 years to win four Grand Slam titles in a row. But in spite of coming back from two sets down to claim the third set, trying to beat the player many consider the best clay-court specialist of all time proved too difficult….

US Open Women’s Final: Serena Williams loses her TEMPER & US Open Final 2-6, 3-6…Daniel & Dog Counterpoint

Morning Dog Folks!

This Morning I’m really ashamed for all the African Americans in our Country no matter if you are a Democrat of Republican…
Yesterday should have been a Historic Day for the United States with an American Playing at the US Open in a Final on 9/11…
Well, at 5.43pm ET it was thorn into pieces because of the most unsportsmanlike behaviour I’ve ever witnessed watching Tennis by a Women’s Player named Serena Williams….
She is a DISGRACE to the American Community….
What happened:
After losing the 1st Set 2-6 to Australian Player Samantha Stosur Mrs. Williams faced Break Point at 30:40 in the 1st Game of the 2nd Set. She roared down a big Forehand with a “Come On” Scream.
But because the Ball had not bounced twice Mrs. Williams was called for HINDERING and the Point was awarded to Stosur….
After that Mrs. Williams yelled at the Chair Umpire Eva Asderaki from Greece calling her Quote:”You’re a hater. You’re unattractive on the inside, ect..”
Mrs. Williams was issued a Code Violation. She was also under probation because she had a similar incident in the 2009 US Open Semifinals against Belgian Kim Clijsters (a Match she lost 4-6, 5-7)….
How can a Sports Player do this to a White Umpire…Mrs. Williams clearly played the RACE CARD here which is unacceptable….
Tournament Director Brian Earley is reviewing the incident on Tape and the USTA will Issue a Statement today….
The worst case scenario could be a suspension for the 2012 US Open for Mrs. Williams….

Daniel …..
I have to say I’m ashamed of your singling out Serena Williams conduct as a ‘BLACK’ thing….
Your remarks here are in my mind out and out racist and sexist……
There are plenty of male and female ‘white’ Tennis players who ‘lose their tempers’ ALL the time!
Yet they don’t get labeled a ‘disgrace’ to the American community….
They are just emotional…
Serena is trying to battle back to her old levels of game against younger, stronger and wiser opponents…
In public….
You complained about Roger Federer yesterday…
And you couldn’t understand it..
Yet you didn’t point out his color or nationality…
WTF did your Serena comment come from?

US Open; Novak Djokovic is the new GOAT of Men’s Tennis at least for this Season…Daniel

Morning Dog Folks!
WHAT AN EPIC Match I witnessed yesterday Night here in Australia…
To be honest as a HUGE Roger Federer Fan I was really, really gutted after Federer’s Return on Djokovics Serve sailed into the net.
It was the “Match of the Tournament” Tennis Fans were all waiting for…
3 Hour 51 Minutes two Guys played the finest of Tennis.
Roger Federer had this Match under control until 7:6 (9-7), 6:4, 0:1 and serving….sadly he took his foot from the gas pedal and allowed Novak Djokovic back into this Match. That was all the Serb with his to date phenomenal Season needed. He jumped on it pouncing on Federer’s Short Balls playing Tennis FROM ANOTHER PLANET in Sets 3 and 4 winning 6:3, 6:2….
By the time the 5th Set arrived it was already a classic. Both Players playing really well until Federer led 4:3 in the 5th Set. The Djokovic served the poorest of Service Games the entire Match allowing Federer to break for a 5:3 lead. Roger quickly built up a 40:15 lead and I was already celebrating when another bizarre Turn of Events started…
Federer blasted a 102 mph Serve wide only to see Djokovic playing THE MOST INCREDIBLE SHOT of his Tennis Career, an Inside-Out Forehand Return Winner that clipped the outside of the Sideline….
People were celebrating because they thought it was out…Djokovic threw his Arms in the Air asking for Support in this pro-Federer Crowd.
It was all he needed winning 17 of the last 21 Points with another Break of Serve for a 6:7 (7-9), 4:6, 6:3, 6:2, 7:5…come from behind Victory…
What a HEART and a PASSION from this 24-year old Serb….
The STROKE that allowed Djokovic to became the Top Men’s Tennis Player in the World saved this Match for him…HIS RETURN OF SERVE….
Over all the years I watched Tennis I always thought Andre Agassi had the best Return of Serve….I may have to revise that after yesterdays Match….

P. S. Djokovic will play Mondays Final against the 2010 Champion Rafael Nadal from Spain whom he defeated 5 straight times this year including at Wimbledon

Daniel…..6-Time Wimbledon Champion Roger Federer loses in the Wimbledon Quarterfinals after a disastrous Performance

Hi all!

Tomas Berdych celebrated his win over Roger Federer 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4, in the Wimbledon quarterfinals on Wednesday.

[ Tomas Berdych celebrated his win over Roger Federer 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4, in the Wimbledon quarterfinals on Wednesday ]

IT IS A REAL STUNNER. Probably one of the biggest Sporting Upsets in modern History. 6-Time Swiss Wimbledon Champion Roger Federer lost for ONLY the second time in 7 years at the All England Championships in Wimbledon.

He made easy Unforced Errors and never seemed to get really into this Match. Bottom Line: A disastrous Performance.

The Result: A loss 3:6, 6:3, 1:6, 4:6 against Czech Tomas Berdych.

Federer will never be the Nr. 1 again. His Downturn has just begun.

Merlin on Tennis 'Superman' Roger Federer…and his Australian Open Win……

Hello Dog !

Swiss Native and Tennis “Superman” Roger Federer has won the Australian Open for a fourth time!.

He also recorded a Record 16th Gran Slam Title. Federer beat Scotland Native Andy Murray in straight Sets 6:3, 6:4, 7:6 (13-11). In the first 2 Sets Federer really demolished Murray playing too aggressive for the Scottish.

In the 3rd Set Federer’s playing Level sunk a little and Murray had his Chances. Murray was up a Break at 5:3 and serving when Federer stormed back. The Set eventually was decided in a very close Tie-Break with Federer winning on his Third Match Point when Murray netted a backhand.

Federer will remain as No 1 for the next few months. Federer’s Main Rival Rafael Nadal will drop to No 4 when new Rankings are published on Monday. Nadal also won’t play for the next month after sustaining an knee injury in his Quarterfinal Match against Murray which eventually forced him to retire.

The new ATP World Tour Rankings coming out tomorrow will be as followed:

1. Roger Federer (Switzerland)  11.350 Points

2. Novak Djokovic (Serbia)  8.310 Points

3. Andy Murray (Great Britain)  7.800 Points

4. Rafael Nadal (Spain)  7.670 Points

Congradulations to both of you guys……..

Merlin….something besides Polls and Politcs……..

…….The Dog is happy Merlin has other interests…………

Hello Dog and morning!

Something unusual today. Hasn’t to do with Politics. Tomorrow evening Australian Daylight Serving Time Roger Federer (Superman) is playing for the 16th Gran Slam Titel. His Opponent is Andy Murray from Great Britain. Murray will be playing his 2nd GS Final.

Federer is playing his 8th Consecutive Major Final.

Should Federer prevail he’ll likely in the Summer become the Player with the most weeks as No. 1 on the ATP Rankings. Currently Pete Sampras holds this Record with 286 weeks. Federer will top that.

In the Head-to-Head…… Murray leads Federer 6-4.
