Mueller and Rosenstein play their cards masterfully…

The Robert Mueller Special Counsel Grand Jury handowns has  grabbed the media spotlight….

They pushed the Florida High School mass shooting out of the top of the news cycle….

The fact that Mueller’s indictments cemented the fact the Russians DID help Trump played great for Trump, who focused JUST on himself….

But the best part politically for Trump was Rob Rosenstein saying that Trump was in the clear from the Grand Jury action…

That accomplices something both Mueller and Rosenstein probably wanted….(seems they know how to play the ‘game’ also, eh?)

Breathing room….

They certainly KNOW that Donald Trump has issues tied to money and other things…

But by saying he’s in the clear now ?

They settled him down….

That and they reminded everyone that they were far from finished and that they certainly have bigger fish to fry…And means they need people to let them continue doing their job….

Question though?

The indictments are against Russians…

Trump likes and defends the Russians…

This was a good / bad thing, eh?

  • We’ve only been reading about [Mueller’s] interviews with Trump associates and White House officials — because these are the folks that Washington reporters talk to.
  • But Mueller has been picking apart complicated, secretive and well-funded Russian networks that could only have originated from the Kremlin.
  • Mueller’s indictments are not the work product of some frivolous fishing expedition to indict Trump, as some of Trump’s conservative allies have claimed….

  • It will now be even harder for Trump to fire Mueller. Capitol Hill already would have gone crazy if Trump tried that. But after Mueller has done such substantive work — even earning the lavish praise of Trump lawyer John Dowd — it’s impossible to imagine Trump getting away with firing him.
  • The fact that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein gave a press conference is significant. It was a major vote of confidence in the Mueller probe: This is Rosenstein saying he’s proud of this work, and fully supports it.
  • It’s also a notable show of independence by Rosenstein — a Heisman to the White House….

Let’s face it….Donald Trump had help from the Russians…Open Thread for Feb. 18, 2018…

Anybody who believes Donald Trump’s wet dream that he A LONE crafted a win against Hillary Clinton needs to have their head examined…

Robert Mueller’s Grand Jury inducements of 13 Russians for working WQITH the Trump campaign is is the latest, but NOT the solo evidence of the ties to the Trump campaign from Russian interests dead set against Hillary Clinton becoming President….

Trump tweeted another bull shit counter to the idea that his win was  helped by a foreign power….

But he’s NEVER gonna get the feeling off his back that he somehow isn’t legit…

Trump’s lucky that this country doesn’t actually have a fool proof way to get rid of a crooked President…

….for the first time, Americans were shown in granular detail how Russian spies worked to sway the election in Trump’s favor, with everything from social media campaigns and ad buys to the organization of rallies and payments to demonstrators dressing up as Hillary Clinton in a cage….

Trump’s retreat into a defensive crouch was quick, as he posted on Twitter Friday afternoon: “Russia started their anti-US campaign in 2014, long before I announced that I would run for President. The results of the election were not impacted. The Trump campaign did nothing wrong — no collusion!”

The White House also released a statement from press secretary Sarah Sanders that said there was “NO COLLUSION between the Trump campaign and Russia and that the outcome of the election was not changed or affected.”….

Mueller Grand Jury charges 13 Russians with conspiracy in connection with the 2016 Presidential Election…

There goes Donald Trump’s lame line that the Russian’s did NOT interfere  to him get elected….

It appears that Mueller & Co. are working grand juries to systematically probe the facts and take the legs out from Donald Trump and his Presidency….

I wonder if Trump received any of the money?

The office of special counsel Robert Mueller on Friday announced indictments against 13 Russian nationals and a trio of Russian entities on charges related to the Kremlin’s efforts to interfere in the 2016 presidential election.

Charges in the indictment include conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to commit wire fraud and bank fraud and aggravated identity theft. The indictment alleges that some of the defendants were in communication with President Donald Trump’s campaign. The president has denied accusations that his campaign colluded in any way with the Russian government.

“Some defendants, posing as U.S. persons and without revealing their Russian association, communicated with unwitting individuals associated with the Trump Campaign and with other political activists to seek to coordinate political activities,” the indictment said….

Trump budget funds Mueller probe into 2019….

While Donald Trump’s lawyers keep him calm by relling the Robert Mueller investigation of all things Trump will be over yesterday?

Thye budget writers have included funding for Mueller’s operation into next year….

Hmmmm?

President Donald Trump’s new budget projects that special counsel Robert Mueller’s office will still be in business in fiscal year 2019 — even though White House officials have repeatedly said they expect the probe to wrap up soon.

The budget projects that Mueller’s team will keep spending at its current rate of about $10 million per year in the next fiscal year, which starts in October.

Mueller’s prosecutors have a criminal case pending against Trump’s former campaign chairman Paul Manafort and deputy Rick Gates. No trial date has been set, but the judge suggested last month that a trial could start in August or September. If it does, the trial and any appeal would almost certainly extend into the next fiscal year.

The White House has said it expects Mueller to finish soon; spokesman Raj Shah told Fox News last month that officials “believe it will end soon.” But White House attorney Ty Cobb said Monday that Trump’s team is not looking for Mueller’s office to shut down its operations entirely, merely to resolve the parts of its investigation that focus on Trump…..

Forget firing Mueller—Trump wants to prosecute him…

By Mark Sumner  @ Daily Kos….

Donald Trump called the story that he tried to fire special counsel Robert Muller “fake news,” even though it was confirmed by everyone from the New York Times to Fox. But maybe the reason Trump was so dismissive of the idea that he would send the former FBI director packing is because firing him simply wasn’t enough.

Instead, as is now becoming plain, the Trump strategy is to discredit the investigation and the FBI without officially removing the leadership. Trump is even talking to friends about the possibility of asking Attorney General Jeff Sessions to consider prosecuting Mueller and his team.

“Here’s how it would work: ‘We’re sorry, Mr. Mueller, you won’t be able to run the federal grand jury today because he has to go testify to another federal grand jury,'” said one Trump adviser.

That’s the entire purpose of the many investigations into the nine-year-old Uranium One matter launched by top congressional sycophant Devin Nunes. While most of the news reporting on these investigations has focused on the ill-defined relationship to Hillary Clinton, the real objective is to say that Mueller—who was FBI director at the time of the deal—failed to properly vet the deal and could be guilty of corruption. Not that Republicans have any evidence. But as Nunes demonstrated with his #ReleaseTheMemo memo, evidence is no longer a concern. Republicans can make up any story they want, refuse to release the supporting documents, stifle any Democratic opposition, and count on the support of talk radio, conservative websites, Fox News, and thousands of Russian bots to make the sale.

The usual crew of Trump supporters in Congress were already on the indict Mueller bandwagon last year.

“It’s time for Attorney General Sessions to start leading and appoint a second special counsel so that the American people can get the truth and the answers they deserve.”

24 hours after Trump wanted fire Mueller story drop…

It’s day 2 after the revelation that Donald Trump was talked out of firing Robert Mueller, the guy who is doing an investigation of ALL things Trump….

The reaction from the big himself?….(Surprisingly calm)

President Trump dismissed reports that he ordered Special Counsel Robert Mueller‘s firing last summer as “fake news” on Friday in Davos, Switzerland.

Fake news. Fake news. Typical New York Times. Fake stories,” Trump told reporters. ….

Democratic lawmakers were predictably outraged.

BREAKING: Paul Manafort sues special counsel Robert Mueller saying he exceeded authority in Russia probe.

This is a breaking story

Updates to come…

Note….

I see this only as Manafort trying to get Trump to pardon him….Again….

Manafort has a open file in the NY S Atty Gen ‘s office while Trump cannot pardon….

Attorneys for former Donald Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort filed a lawsuit Wednesday in federal court accusing special counsel Robert Mueller and the Justice Department of overreaching with criminal charges brought last fall that included money laundering and tax evasion.

Manafort, who has pleaded not guilty to the multi-count indictment, urged the court to strike down Mueller’s appointment as illegal. The 17-page complaint argues that the Russia special counsel exceeded authority DOJ gave him in May to investigate any links or coordination between the Russian government and the Trump campaign — and that DOJ granted Mueller too much power in the first place by giving him the green light to go after “any matters that arose or may arise directly from the investigation.”

If the court won’t strike down his appointment, Manafort’s lawsuit suggests several other options, including setting aside Mueller’s indictments, declaring that he doesn’t have the authority to investigate business dealings that aren’t part of his original mandate, stopping him from investigating matters beyond the scope of the original appointment, or “any other relief as may be just and proper.”…

Why Donald Trump probably hasn’t fired Ropert Mueller…By the Numbers

Remember….

The removal of an American President has evolved into a POLITICAL action….

NOT a criminal action….

By the rules we have in this country?

Donald Trump is correct….

He COULD walk down the Broadway in New York City…

Pull out a gun and shoot by stander and NOT be charged with a federal crime…

(He probably COULD be charged with a state crime though)

Image result for Donald Trump

Impeachment (indictment) comes from the House….

The charges are approved by a SIMPLE MAJORITY…..

If the Democrats win a majority come this November?

The pressuer on Pelosi and Schumer for an impeachment will be YUGE….

But there is a CATCH…..

To convict and remove a sitting President from office?

The Senate vote ‘Aye’ must be by TWO THIRDS.

There is probably NO CHANCE of THAT from 2018 to 2020…..

And THAT is why Donald Trump is probably NOT going to fire Robert Mueller….

To fire him WOULD tilt the balance  of his hairline support, by his party members, in the Senate, due to the reactionary media and public pressure from a move that WOULD CLEARLY be seen as  an ‘obstruction of justice’….

Democratic and Republican leaders along with the political/legal people on Mueller’s team are well aware of the above ….

For the sake of the country?

Democrats and probably establishment Republicans are betting that Mueller and Trump HIMSEL:F will make their bad dream go away with him bailing out of the White House….

An Analysis of the Republicans efforts to out maneuver the Robert Mueller investigation…

FiveThirtyEigth gives us a clear look at the long game of Republicans efforts to defang the Robert Mueller Special Council (Prosecutor) investigation into wrong doing by Donald Trump and company….

The name of the game is to make Mueller’s efforts look POLITICALLY anti-Republican in nature….Most Americans support Mueller’s efforts

Image result for anti-mueller GOPer's

There is the Bill Clinton case as a president….

Remember?

The American founders only had the King as a reference of government leadership…

And it is becoming clearer everyday that in America?

Removing even a crocked President is next to impossible if you can get a few lawmakers on your party to support you in Congress…

There is already evidence that anti-Mueller sentiment is taking hold in the GOP. A Pew Research Center poll conducted in late November and early December (so before the latest round of Mueller-bashing) found that about half of Republicans doubted the special counsel would conduct a fair investigation, compared to about a third of the public overall. (Quinnipiac also showed about half of Republicans with concerns about the fairness of the Mueller probe.)

If this strategy succeeds, it could yield huge dividends, since ultimately the impeachment and removal from office of a president is a political process. In the short term, redefining support for Mueller as a liberal stance could prevent congressional Republicans eager to please their bases from defending or protecting the special counsel. So far, various bills to keep Trump from firing Mueller have gone nowhere in Congress, suggesting that this type of legislation has already been successfully painted as anti-Republican. In the long term, if Democrats gain control of the House, Senate, or both, Mueller and his investigation being viewed as anti-Republican could literally save Trump’s presidency. If few or no Republicans support a push for Trump’s removal, he is likely to remain in office even if he is impeached, since removal requires 67 senators and it’s unlikely Democrats will have that large a majority in the near future.

“By going public with criticism, you try and polarize reactions,” said Josh Chafetz, a law professor at Cornell University who studies conflicts between Congress and the executive branch.

Trump and his allies could have all of these goals in mind at once: moving the public but particularly Republicans against Mueller; trying to force him to limit or end his probe; and leaving the door open to getting rid of him. But simply creating a trust gap between Republicans and Mueller helps Trump. And that gap is likely to grow, with Fox News personalities, Republicans on Capitol Hill and the president himself regularly attacking Mueller and his team….

James Comey haunts Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump….

Image result for James Comey/clinton/trump

Hillary Clinton told the Today Show that she was “dumbfounded” when former FBI Director James Comey reopened the investigation into her email server right before Election Day.

Said Clinton: “The determining factor was the intervention of Comey… it stopped my momentum, it drove voters from me.”

She added: “I feel very strongly that he went way beyond his role in doing what he did.”

Mike Allen: “Behind the scenes in the West Wing, President Trump continues to rant and brood about former FBI Director Jim Comey and the Russia investigation that got him fired. Trump tells aides and visitors that the probe now being run by special counsel Bob Mueller is a witch hunt, and that Comey was a leaker.”

“The president’s friends are most worried about Mueller digging into past business deals, which is why his team keeps raising concerns in public and private about the ‘scope’ of the investigation.”

Politicalwire….

And Steve Bannon says his former boss made a mistake by firing the guy that COULD cost his boss HIS job….

Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon believes President Donald Trump’s decision to fire former FBI Director James Comey was one of the worst mistakes in “modern political history.”

In a “60 Minutes” interview that was posted online Sunday night, Bannon was asked whether he considered Comey’s dismissal — which ignited a political firestorm and directly led to the appointment of a special counsel to investigate Russian meddling in the 2016 election, including potential ties to Trump’s campaign — the biggest mistake in political history.
Bannon responded, “That would be probably — that probably would be too bombastic even for me, but maybe modern political history.”
He went on to acknowledge that if Comey had not been let go, it’s unlikely that the probe led by special counsel Robert Mueller would have been established…..

Mueller an his investgators have a copy of Trump’s first drafted Comey firing letter….

There will be no hiding by Donald J.Trump from the preying eyes of the  agents and lawyers of the Robert Mueller probe into his actions…

Trump is now paying a price for his firing of an FBI director in oreder to slow or stop a look at his actions whihc have been stopped dead in it’s tracks and won’t go away……( Look for Trump to under go questioning at some point this winter or early spring….)…There seems little doubt that Mueller’s group IS persuing a possibe case against the President of the United States….

Oh, and neither will the leaks that are evident in the story linked below…

The special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, has obtained a letter drafted by President Trump and a top political aide that offered an unvarnished view of Mr. Trump’s thinking in the days before the president fired the F.B.I. director, James B. Comey.

The circumstances and reasons for the firing are believed to be a significant element of Mr. Mueller’s investigation, which includes whether Mr. Trump obstructed justice by firing Mr. Comey.

The letter, drafted in May, was met with opposition from Donald F. McGahn II, the White House counsel, who believed that its angry, meandering tone was problematic, according to interviews with a dozen administration officials and others briefed on the matter. Among Mr. McGahn’s concerns were references to private conversations the president had with Mr. Comey, including times when the F.B.I. director told Mr. Trump he was not under investigation in the F.B.I.’s continuing Russia inquiry.

Mr. McGahn successfully blocked the president from sending the letter — which Mr. Trump had composed with Stephen Miller, one of the president’s top political advisers — to Mr. Comey. But a copy was given to the deputy attorney general, Rod J. Rosenstein, who then drafted his own letter. Mr. Rosenstein’s letter was ultimately used as the Trump administration’s public rationale for Mr. Comey’s firing, which was that Mr. Comey had mishandled the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server.

Mr. Rosenstein is overseeing Mr. Mueller’s investigation into Russian efforts to disrupt last year’s presidential election, as well as whether Mr. Trump obstructed justice….

Trump’s Staff fight to keep their Boss from making things Worst….

The NY Times is out with a piece that relates that Trump’s friends , supporters and staff have been fighting to keep Trump from moving to fire Special Council Robert Mueller and bringing a HUGE sledge hammer of media down him and possible Republican lawmakers defecting from supporting Trump  including a possible opening for impeachment ….

Last month’s appointment of Robert S. Mueller IIIas a special counsel to investigate possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia enraged President Trump. Yet, at least initially, he holstered his Twitter finger and publicly said nothing.

But behind the scenes, the president soon began entertaining the idea of firing Mr. Mueller even as his staff tried to discourage him from something they believed would turn a bad situation into a catastrophe, according to several people with direct knowledge of Mr. Trump’s interactions.

For now, the staff has prevailed. “While the president has every right to” fire Mr. Mueller, “he has no intention to do so,” the White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters late Tuesday after a day of speculation over Mr. Mueller’s fate.

Mr. Trump, angered by reports in Breitbart News and other conservative news media that Mr. Mueller was close to James B. Comey, the F.B.I. director he had fired, repeatedly brought up the political and legal implications of firing someone he viewed as incapable of an impartial investigation.

In recent days, the president has told his staff, his visitors, and his outside advisers that he was increasingly convinced Mr. Mueller, like Mr. Comey, his successor as director of the F.B.I., was part of a “witch hunt” by partisans who wanted to see him weakened or forced from office. But Mr. Trump has made no decision to act against Mr. Mueller and insists he knows the risks of doing so — but people close to the president say Mr. Trump is so volatile they cannot be sure that he won’t change his mind if he finds out anything to lead him to believe the investigation has been compromised.

Whether Mr. Trump can tolerate a free-ranging investigation, directed by Mr. Mueller, that could raise questions about the legitimacy of his Electoral College victory, the topic that most sparks his rage, will be a critical test for a president who has continued on Twitter and elsewhere to flout the advice of his staff, friends and legal team.

For Mr. Trump, the line between whim and will is always thin….

An alternate point in the above piece is that Trump would succeed in ‘scaring’ Mueller to leave Trump alone seems far fetched….
