Bier inquired about Romney’s attack against Gingrich’s “compassion” moment, saying he wouldn’t favor splitting illegal immigrant families who have been in the country for decades, when Romney himself suggested a similar stance back in 2006-2007. He then told Bloomberg that some illegal immigrants need to be allowed to stay.

What is the one thing that can make Mike Huckabee get over his hate for Mitt Romney? His hate for Rick Perry. Huckabee has been saying kind things about Romney since Perry entered, and is now telling the tea party to suck it up and accept him. In much nicer words, though.

Herman Cain placed first Friday in a straw poll of Republican activists at the Western Republican Leadership Conference.
Cain took 31 percent of the more than 550 votes cast. Mitt Romney came in second with 29 percent, while Newt Gingrich’s 21 percent put him in third.

Americans overall in the new Post-ABC poll offer mixed reviews of three top contenders to challenge President Obama, with many still reserving judgment on Perry, Romney and Cain. But negative ratings for Romney and Perry — both better known — have ticked up in the past month, now approaching four in 10; just over one in four has a negative opinion of Cain.
Specifically, you can see where conservative Republicans have more than tripled their Perry unfavorables from 7 to 26 in just one month. And one can also see this about Herman Cain:

Of course, these polls were taken before Cain’s response to the Rick Perry hunting grounds controversy; given the conservative backlash Cain faced, I wouldn’t be surprised if his numbers were to drop. But then again, based on how things have gone so far with this primary, it’s probably a mistake to let yourself get surprised about anything.
