Mueller probe update 9/12/17…’Don’t lie to protect Trump’….

That’s the advice Trump’s staff and supporters are being given as they prepare to sit down with FBI agents and Mueller lawyers….

Just relate what actually happened….Don’t lie to the investigators who will check your story with others….

Observers feel the staff people are NOT the target here…

But Mueller’s people want to get a base idea of what went on with the President himself , his son and son-in-law and several close aides on a possible cover up of certain actions and the firing of James Comey to stop the Russian investigation…

“What I always tell clients is you can’t protect anybody. You can only hurt yourself,” said a lawyer representing a client involved in the Russia probe. The attorney added that any overt attempts to protect Trump will raise wider suspicions of a cover-up, making matters “worse for everybody.”

“Efforts to concoct a story to protect somebody are almost inevitably doomed to failure,” the attorney explained. “All you do is create liability to yourself that didn’t exist before.”

Mueller’s investigation and multiple probes on Capitol Hill have expanded to include the Trump family’s interactions with Russians as well as business deals involving the Trump Organization. The federal prosecutors and congressional investigators are doing their homework as they build substantive factual records through document requests, subpoenas and interviews.

That’s something the lawyers representing Trump officials say they can’t impress enough on their clients, especially when one of the most potent weapons Mueller and his team have to gain leverage centers around anyone who makes misleading statements or other trip-ups.

“The lesson to be always learned is loyalty is one thing, but are you prepared to go to jail for it?” said former Whitewater special counsel Robert Ray. “The answer to that question should be no.”….

Investigators for the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, recently searched a home of President Trump’s former campaign manager, Paul Manafort, for tax documents and foreign banking records, according to a person briefed on the matter.

Officials did not disclose where the search warrant was carried out. Mr. Manafort has homes in Virginia, Florida, New York City and the Hamptons.

Mr. Mueller is investigating an array of allegations about Mr. Manafort, including his work for the Ukrainian government and his role in a 2016 meeting between Trump campaign officials and Russians promising to share damaging information on Hillary Clinton.

Mr. Manafort’s spokesman confirmed that an F.B.I. raid had been carried out.

“Mr. Manafort has consistently cooperated with law enforcement and other serious inquiries and did so on this occasion as well,” said Jason Maloni, a spokesman for Mr. Manafort. News of the search warrant was first reported on Tuesday by The Washington Post. The Post said Mr. Manafort’s home in Alexandria, Va., was searched.

The search was carried out shortly after Mr. Manafort met with investigators for the Senate Intelligence Committee on July 25. In that meeting, Mr. Manafort answered questions and provided investigators with notes about that 2016 meeting with the Russians….

Trump’s operating as if he doesn’t have to have anyone looking at his actions is over…..

President Trump on Monday asked why federal investigators and his “beleaguered” Attorney General Jeff Sessions are not investigating Hillary Clinton for her “crimes” as well as ties to Russia.

“So why aren’t the Committees and investigators, and of course our beleaguered [attorney general], looking into Crooked Hillarys crimes & Russia relations?” Trump asked in a tweet.

Just a few hours before, the president had also quoted Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) in which he said the Democratic party should blame itself for losing the presidential election, not Russian interference….

President Trump has floated the possibility of replacing Attorney General Jeff Sessions with his steadfast ally Rudy Giuliani to serve in the top Justice Department post, Axios reported Monday.

Trump broached the idea in internal discussions about bringing in and surrounding himself with staunch supporters, sources within the West Wing told the news outlet.

Before The New York Times interview last week, Trump had already expressed anger and frustration at Sessions for recusing himself from the Russia investigation, Axios reports.

Trump, during the interview, opined that Sessions’ decision to recuse himself was “unfair” to him and he would’ve likely picked another person to lead the Justice Department if he had known this is the move Sessions would make.

In a tweet on Monday, Trump went after Sessions, calling him “beleaguered”….

Would Trump pardon anyone Mueller charges in Russian probe?

Democratic Senator Mark Warner thinks  THAT Could happen….

And it IS certainly a possibility ….

The political fallout though COULD be YUGE against Trump doing it….

The top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, Mark Warner(Va.), said one of his big fears in the ongoing investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election is that President Trump would issue pardons should anyone be convicted.

“I asked Attorney General Sessions what I thought would be the ultimate softball when he testified. I said — I may not have said it this way — at least you got to tell us that there has been no discussion of pardons at this point. And he did not answer,” Warner told Vox in an interview.

“The possibility of presidential pardons in this process concerns me and also would be, I think, a really, really bad move,” he added.

AG Sessions hires a personal lawyer…

U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions has become the latest senior Trump administration official to hire a private attorney, a Justice Department spokeswoman said on Tuesday.

Sessions has retained Washington-based lawyer Charles Cooper, whom spokeswoman Sarah Isgur Flores described as a long-time friend of the former senator.

She did not say when Cooper was hired or whether he would be Sessions’ defense lawyer in the federal probe into alleged Russian interference in last year’s presidential election and possible collusion by Trump’s campaign team….

Trump  COULD fire Mueller, which is WHY I think they leaked this…..
Sorta
Right Back At Ya, eh?…..(From Comey and Mueller)

Trump will certainly have a tweet in the morning….

This simply is NOT gonna go away….

The special counsel overseeing the investigation into Russia’s role in the 2016 election is interviewing senior intelligence officials as part of a widening probe that now includes an examination of whether President Trump attempted to obstruct justice, officials said.

The move by special counsel Robert S. Mueller III to investigate Trump’s conduct marks a major turning point in the nearly year-old FBI investigation, which until recently focused on Russian meddling during the presidential campaign and on whether there was any coordination between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin. Investigators have also been looking for any evidence of possible financial crimes among Trump associates, officials said.

Trump had received private assurances from then-FBI Director James B. Comey starting in January that he was not personally under investigation. Officials say that changed shortly after Comey’s firing.

Five people briefed on the requests, speaking on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly, said that Daniel Coats, the current director of national intelligence, Mike Rogers, head of the National Security Agency, and Rogers’s recently departed deputy, Richard Ledgett, agreed to be interviewed by Mueller’s investigators as early as this week. The investigation has been cloaked in secrecy, and it is unclear how many others have been questioned by the FBI.

The NSA said in a statement that it will “fully cooperate with the special counsel” and declined to comment further. The office of the director of national intelligence and Ledgett declined to comment….

The Washington Post first reported on Wednesday that Mr. Mueller had requested the interviews with the intelligence officials.

It has been clear since Mr. Mueller was appointed last month that he was likely to scrutinize the president’s actions. Mr. Trump has said he was willing to be interviewed by Mr. Mueller’s agents. Mr. Comey said he was sure that the special counsel would investigate the possibility of obstruction.

In recent days, Mr. Trump is said to have considered firing Mr. Mueller but was talked out of it by aides. If the president is under investigation for obstruction, any move to fire Mr. Mueller would prove more complicated politically.

Even if the F.B.I. gathers information about the possibility of a crime, that does not necessarily mean prosecutors are building a case against the president. In the early stages of investigations, F.B.I. agents typically want to gather all the facts. Agents then present those facts to prosecutors who decide whether they want to take the case.

Mr. Mueller’s requests are among his first publicly known acts since he took over the investigation last month, after it was publicly revealed that Mr. Comey wrote a memo about how Mr. Trump asked him to halt the inquiry into his fired national security adviser, Michael T. Flynn…

The fact that Mr. Trump’s actions are under scrutiny reflects a ripple of unintended consequences that began when the president, frustrated by the cloud of investigations into Russian collusion, fired Mr. Comey last month. “When I decided to just do it, I said to myself — I said, ‘You know, this Russia thing with Trump and Russia is a made-up story,’” Mr. Trump told NBC.

The White House could try to assert executive privilege to keep the intelligence officials from discussing those conversations with Mr. Mueller. But that could set up a fight in court, where judges have generally held that criminal investigators can demand to know information that would normally be privileged.

In his memos, Mr. Comey said Mr. Trump encouraged him to end an F.B.I. investigation into Mr. Flynn, an effort that Mr. Comey called “very disturbing.” There is a broad federal inquiry underway into Mr. Flynn….
