Ohio US Senator Rob Portman is considered to be near the top of Mitt Romney’s short list for vice president, but even if he is not selected, he will be a valuable asset in the Senate. Portman has a strong relationship with several moderate Democrats and could be a key ally for Romney in any budget deal.

The poll shows just 35 percent of Americans express either a positive or negative opinion of Bain — a number only slightly higher than the 28 percent who had an opinion of the company in May, before the onslaught from Team Obama.

Obama-Gun Control: Gun control advocates decided to vent their frustration on the Democrats not pushing gun control, aka committing politicial suicide, by protesting outside a fundraiser for President Obama. Several dozen protestors showed up outside an event in Portland including gun control advocates. Obama spent 5 1/2 hours in Portland fundraising.

One of my biggest worries is the parallels some have drawn between Mitt Romney and John Kerry. This article details how another parallel between the two men has developed… their inability to respond to attacks. That said, the article has a pretty strong factual inaccuracy in it. There is little to no evidence of the Bain attacks actually moving the polls one way or another.

Romney’s side has been able to take in more money than Obama’s during the last two months as both men raise money jointly with their political parties, which can take in larger donations than the candidate committees alone.
The difference is that Obama can directly control his money, while Romney must rely more on party leaders.

I would take issue with the notion that the race has been tightening. Instead, once you remove the statistical noise from the polls, the trajectory looksroughly flat based on our analysis. Mr. Obama has maintained a narrow, but fairly consistent, lead of about 2 points over perhaps the last six to eight weeks.
