Dueling polls in the Centennial State, with Rasmussen showing the race tied at 47, while PPP shows Obama up 49-43. I suspect the actual race is probably somewhere in between, with Obama up by 2-3.

There’s a secret lurking behind everything you’re reading about the upcoming election, a secret that all political insiders know—or should—but few are talking about, most likely because it takes the drama out of the whole business.
The secret is the electoral college, and the fact is that the more you look at it, the more you come to conclude that Mitt Romney has to draw an inside straight like you’ve never ever seen in a movie to win this thing.

Reid lacks the clownishness of the Joe McCarthy Re-enactors Caucus in the House of Representatives. But he knows something of their motives. So while we’re skeptical of the majority leader’s claims of inside knowledge of Romney’s taxes, we’re confident that Reid does in fact know something.

The lawmakers had tried to unite around the position of the Republican presidential hopeful, leaving the wind production credit out of a slate of business tax breaks to be formally drafted on Thursday. But that drive faltered when Senator Charles E. Grassley, Republican of Iowa, angrily told colleagues he would join with Democrats to add the extension back……

Pity the poor GOP elders who it seems are increasingly watching their guy move in the direction of Bob Dole’s defeat to Bill Clinton…..
