Political Roundup for August 28th, 2017…Pence 2020?…RRH Elections…

Kasichlooper: Say it with me now ‘THIRD PARTIES CAN’T WIN NATIONAL ELECTIONS!’ The one asterisk to that has to do with impending civil war (and we’re not there, at least not yet). Even then, one of the original two parties will just rapidly die, leaving us with two parties once again. The most recent trial balloon making its way around Acela Corridor cocktail parties (and likely funding some consultant’s underling’s delicious and boozy bottomless brunch at El Centro on 14th St) is a possible 2020 ticket of Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) and Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper (D). You get two Johns for the price of one, and for once that wasn’t being said to a hooker. Joking aside, this balloon will eventually deflate like all of the others.

Pence: In this piece by Jack Colwell over at Howey Politics Indiana, he points out that the DNC is already talking about Vice President Mike Pence (R) as if he will be running for President… in 2020. I’m not sure if the DNC is just convinced that Trump will retire, or that they’re so deep into their own rhetoric that they’ve already just priced-in his impeachment and removal from office as a given. If it’s the former, I’d be really interested in how they know this. I’m guessing it’s the latter, though….

Some Democrats begin to set up for a 2020 campaign against Mike Pence …

While Donald Trump IS the natural target?

American Bridge 21st Century — a Democratic opposition super PAC and nonprofit funded by liberal mega-donors isn’t taking any chances…They are beginning to do opposition digging on Donald Trump’s Vice President in case , as many of us feel?……Trump doesn’t make the 2020 Republican cut….

Democrats are already preparing for a possible 2020 presidential bid by Vice President Mike Pence, with a major group dedicating staff — including on the ground in Indiana — to dig up dirt on him, amid rumblings that Pence is positioning himself for a run.

American Bridge 21st Century — a Democratic opposition super PAC and nonprofit funded by liberal mega-donors — is leading the effort, which started earlier this summer and kicked into high gear following a New York Times story reporting on Pence’s “shadow campaign.”

The vice president has denied having intentions to run, but he has been meeting with top donors and has set up a leadership PAC that has already raised $540,000, as President Trump continues to make comments on race and other issues that are making Republicans increasingly uncomfortable.

The group, which will simultaneously continue its focus on targeting Trump, has three staffers dedicated to Pence more than three years before the 2020 election. Bridge shared its initial round of research with BuzzFeed News, giving a glimpse into Democrats’ early strategy against Pence — which is focused on denying the vice president an opportunity to distance himself from the administration.

“If he’s running for president, we are going to be prepared,” said Shripal Shah, vice president of the group, which spent nearly $20 million in the 2016 election cycle through its super PAC.

The White House did not respond to multiple requests for comment for this story. In a statement in response to the New York Times story, Pence called the article “disgraceful and offensive.” “Whatever fake news may come our way, my entire team will continue to focus all our efforts to advance the president’s agenda and see him re-elected in 2020. Any suggestion otherwise is both laughable and absurd.”…..

Is Mike Pence auditioning for 2020?

A LOT of Republican regulars think so….

The guy is 180 degree’s from his boss right now and the Grand Ole Party people that got beat down by Donald Trump and his supporters are itching to get control of their party back….

Mike Pence’s national political stock has skyrocketed since Tuesday night’s debate, and the Indiana governor is now the favorite to top the 2020 Republican presidential ticket if Donald Trump loses.

Twenty-two percent of Republicans say Pence is their No. 1 choice to be the next GOP nominee if Hillary Clinton knocks off Trump in November. Pence is beating Speaker Paul Ryan and Trump himself by nine percentage points, according to a POLITICO/Morning Consult poll of 1,989 registered voters this week. Twelve percent of Republicans polled said they’d like to see Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) run again, 11 percent favor Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and just 7 percent are holding out hope Ohio Gov. John Kasich mounts another bid.

Pence’s meteoric rise in the eyes of Republicans comes after he notched a convincing victory in the only vice presidential debate Tuesday night at Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia. Thirty-eight percent of voters said he beat Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine, while just 20 percent said Kaine won. Pence’s favorable ratings shot up seven percentage points, as well. But Pence did Trump no favors: An astounding 84 percent said the 90-minute tit-for-tat would not change their vote…..
