The Democrats hold enough  votes to keep the Republicans from getting the 60 votes that need to confirm Judge Neil Gorsuch to the US Supreme Court…

It is now up to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to change the rules on how many votes it will take confirm the judge….

Gorsuch WILL BE confirmed….

Senate Democrats on Thursday filibustered the Supreme Court nomination of Judge Neil M. Gorsuch, holding the line with a precedent-busting partisan blockade of a selection for the high court and setting up a showdown over filibusters that could reshape the Senate for years.

The Democrats’ opposition is unlikely to stop Judge Gorsuch’s confirmation. Republicans were expected later on Thursday to pursue the so-called nuclear option: changing longstanding rules to bypass the filibuster and lift President Trump’s nominee with a simple majority vote. Judge Gorsuch’s final confirmation is expected on Friday.

Lawmakers convened late Thursday morning to decide whether to end debate and advance to a final vote on Judge Gorsuch. Republicans needed 60 votes — at least eight Democrats and independents joining the 52-seat majority — to end debate on the nomination and proceed to a final vote. Only a handful of Democrats defected, leaving Republicans to choose between allowing the president’s nominee to fail or bulldozing long-held Senate practice.

Deploying the nuclear option would fundamentally alter the way the Senate operates — a sign of the body’s creeping rancor in recent years after decades of at least relative bipartisanship on Supreme Court matters. Both parties have likewise warned of sweeping effects on the future of the court, predicting that the shift will lead to the elevation of more ideologically extreme judges if only a majority is required for confirmation….

Trump Supreme Court pick Gorsuch starts open job interview hearings before the Senate…

Neil Gorsuch has began his confirmation hearing before the US Senate for the job of US Supreme Court judge repelcing the the opening on the court from the Anthony Scalia passing….

Judeg Gorsuch will be confirmed barring any major slip-up….

But Democrats will be asking him hard questions ….

Judge Neil Gorsuch’s confirmation hearing for a seat on the Supreme Court began Monday morning, giving President Trump his first chance to make a lasting imprint on the federal judiciary — and Republicans a fresh test to work their will now that they control all of Washington’s levers of power.

Gorsuch, a federal appeals court judge from Colorado, was promoted by conservative legal activists because of his sterling credentials, a decade of right-of-center rulings and his allegiance to the same brand of constitutional interpretation employed by the late justice he would replace, Antonin Scalia.

“Single best thing the president’s done,” said Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.), a frequent Trump foil who predicted Republican unity on the matter and an easy victory for the president following the string of controversies that Trump has wrought since he took office.

All of that also sets up a stark dilemma for Senate Democrats. Monday brings their newest opportunity since the confirmation hearings of Trump’s Cabinet to take a stand against a young administration that has horrified liberal Americans with efforts to strip away provisions of the Affordable Care Act, impose an entry ban on some immigrants and deeply cut federal agencies.

The left also remains angry about a Supreme Court seat that has been vacant since Scalia died 13 months ago because Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) decided to block a hearing for President Barack Obama’s selection for the seat, Judge Merrick Garland of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit…..

Democratic Senate Minority Leader Schumer dances for different drummers within his own party…

Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) is now the most powerful national Democrat….

With only four more Republican Senators in the GOP majority and the Senate’s reverence for NOT changing the rules….Schumer is place to influence things…

But due to the Trump No Enter insistence ?

The Democratic left and OTHERS have pushed on Schumer hard to do EVERYTHING he can to stall the Trump choices for ANYTHING….

Sound familiar?

Yep it’s the same as the Republicans playbook for the last 8 years….

Problem for Schumer?

He actually HAS to get along with the Republicans to able to keep the rules that he used from being changed to lock him out….

AND…

He also  has several Democrats that he has to worry about leaving him and voting with the Republicans to save their seats …

About every two weeks, Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer keeps an important dinner date with five of his colleagues, and they’re not the five most senior members of the Senate or even his closest advisers in his new job.

They are “the Big Five,” as Schumer calls them: five moderate Democrats representing states that President Trump won who are likely to face the most difficult reelection fights next year.

Given the stakes, “We have to protect these people,” Schumer (D-N.Y.) said of his targeted colleagues. “And sometimes we’re going to have to do things to help them. We all have to watch each others’ backs.”

Here’s the rub: Alongside Schumer’s concern for these vulnerable Democrats is a sudden burst of energy on the left, not only to express deep-rooted anger at Trump but growing impatience with congressional Democrats. If they don’t push far enough, the liberals will be angry. If they push too far, they risk losing seats.

They also risk provoking Republicans. If Democrats try to block Judge Neil Gorsuch, for instance — Trump’s nominee for the Supreme Court — Republicans have the ability to eliminate the filibuster, which would enable Gorsuch’s confirmation on a simple-majority vote.

“I’m worried about the Senate coming apart,” said Sen. Bill Nelson (D-Fla.), who faces a multimillion-dollar reelection campaign next year. Senate Minority
