The American public is largely unaware of the price its military pays to fight the United States’ distant conflicts

Donald Trump has been taken to task for NOT acknowledging the loss of four US Special Ops Green Berets in Niger….

He addressed the issue causally yesterday…

Few people know that John Kelly, Trump’s Chief  of Staff has lost a son in Afghanistan due to land mine…

Kelly, and all the general’s surrounding President Donald Trump have had the job of sending letters and speaking the families of soldiers they commanded in combat….

While the media was HEAVLY focused on the military and war in Viet Nam, and the Middle East…That focus is gone….

Trump flexing about North Korea has American military bosses adamantly AGAINST any actually military engagement against the Korea’s…The general’s KNOW that the American public despite the media showing polls that say Americans’s are FOR the military action that Trump threatens ?

The sacrifices made by the men and women warriors are simply NOT KNOWN by average Americans….

Kelly is the most senior U.S. military officer to lose a son or daughter in Iraq or Afghanistan. He was giving voice to a growing concern among soldiers and Marines: The American public is largely unaware of the price its military pays to fight the United States’ distant conflicts. Less than 1 percent of the population serves in uniform at a time when the country is engaged in one of the longest periods of sustained combat in its history.

President Obama devoted only six sentences to the war in Afghanistan in his State of the Union address in January. The 25-second standing ovation that lawmakers lavished on the troops lasted almost as long as the president’s war remarks.

Kelly has largely shunned public attention since his speech and his son’s death. He discussed his speech and his son to provide insight into the lives and the burdens of military families.

“We are only one of 5,500 American families who have suffered the loss of a child in this war,” he said in an e-mail. “The death of my boy simply cannot be made to seem any more tragic than the others.”

White House: Trump is the one ‘keeping the world from chaos’…Open Thread for Oct. 6, 2017

Folling a well established routine ….

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders has made sure everyone, but mostly her boss Donald Trump KNOWS that HE is the man in charge of the American Government….

Not Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and chief of staff John Kelly whom Sen. Bob Corker named as the guys who “help separate our country from chaos.”…..

Asked about the comments from Corker, Sanders on Friday reminded the White House press corps at the daily briefing who’s in charge.

“Look, I think that the president is the one that’s keeping the world from chaos,” she said. “He has an incredible team around him that’s helping him lead that effort, and he’s had tremendous accomplishments on the international stage by working with allies and confronting enemies.”

“We’re gonna continue doing that,” she added. “We’re gonna continue doing that as a team with the president leading that effort.”….

Trump approval numbers bump up with well educted Americans…

That’s what the Washington Post see’s…..

Steve Bannon is gone…..(And other flame throwers)

John Kelly has the reigns of the White House….

Hmmmm?

In the week since Kelly came in, there’s been effectively no change in Trump’s approval. That week it was 38 percent, then it fell and rose back to the same point. Since Bannon was ousted, the rise has been pretty consistent.

The change over the past four weeks has been heavily centered on the sorts of Americans that Trump would very much like to keep in line for 2020. Among college graduates, his approval has jumped 7 points; among those with advanced degrees, it’s up 10. Among moderate Republicans, his approval rating has climbed 7 points. In the case of moderate Republicans, he still is well behind where he was in January, but among better-educated Americans, he’s regained most of the ground he lost…..

The piece DOES incidently point out that for the last month Donald Trump has played second fiddle to several storms…..

States begin to line up to sue Trump on Dreamers program cut…

Update…

Sessions says DACA ‘being rescinded’ with window for Congress to act

Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced Tuesday that President Donald Trump’s administration is rescinding an Obama-era policy that provided work permits to undocumented immigrants who were brought into the country as children, with a wind-down period that allows Congress to act on the issue first….

If Congress doesn’t act during their busy fall several states are going to court to stop the cuts to the Obama  Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program….

It looks like Trump and Kelly aren’t off the hook on this….

The politics of this could leak into next years Midterm elections…

At least two states are threatening to sue if President Trump decides to cancel the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson (D) said Monday that his state will sue Trump if ends the program, which shields from deportation undocumented immigrants who were brought to the country as minors and received work permits.

“If President Trump follows through on his reported decision to cancel DACA after a six-month delay, the Washington Attorney General’s Office will file suit to halt this cruel and illegal policy and defend DACA recipients,” Ferguson said in a statement.

“We have been working closely with legal teams around the country, and we expect to be joined by other states in this action.”

Ferguson’s statement comes after New York’s governor and attorney general also said their state would sue if Trump ends the Obama-era program.

Nearly 800,000 immigrants have received deportation deferrals under the program, which began in 2012…..

The shake-up comes after newly appointed White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci accused Priebus of leaking his personal financial information.

Scaramucci tweeted about the disclosure Wednesday night, and hinted at Priebus’ potential involvement by tagging him in the post. Hours later, in a subsequent tweet, Scaramucci denied that he had meant to vilify Priebus. But in a CNN interview Thursday morning, he seemed to place the onus on Priebus to clear his name.

“If Reince wants to explain that he’s not a leaker, let him do that,” Scaramucci said.

The publication of Scaramucci’s financial information, it has since become clear, was not a leak at all. The Politico reporter who first published it said the data she used was publicly available.

On Sunday, shortly after he began occupying the communications director post, Scaramucci promised to “fire everybody” if leaks did not end. The threat ― and a subsequent warning about who was in Scaramucci’s crosshairs ― has already prompted a high-profile resignation. White House press aide Michael Short, apparently viewed as a Priebus ally, departed on Tuesday after Scaramucci indicated Short would be his first target when he began to force people out.

Priebus’ presumed exit also comes after the sudden resignation of White House press secretary Sean Spicer, who served as the Republican National Committee’s communications director when Priebus was its chairman. Spicer left in protest over the news that Trump had appointed Scaramucci as communications director, effectively superseding Spicer with a hedge fund manager with no previous political experience.

There have been signs of Priebus’ waning influence and beleaguered job status for months…..
