The 2018 Budget…Will Democrats Blink?…Open Thread for Jan.3, 2018

Within the next few weeks the American Federal Budget for 2018 will have to be worked out….

A failure to do so will force the US Government to stop its non-essential employee’s from coming to work….

While the Republicans passed their tax cut/give away on their own?

That won’t happen with the budget which needs Democratic votes in the Senate…

The BIG question IS?

Will the Democrats dig in against the House Conservative’s reluctance to approve ANYTHING the Democrats want?….What will the Republican Senator do?

And finally?

How far will Senate Democratic Minority Leader Chuck Schumer go to get something for his party to sell in the upcoming Midterm elections?

Republican and Democratic leaders of the House and Senate will meet on Wednesday with White House officials to try to come to terms on a deal to raise strict limits on military and domestic spending before Jan. 19, when the current stopgap spending bill expires.

If negotiations break down, the government could run out of money — just as President Trump marks his first year in office.

Democratic demands are ambitious, topped by a legislative shield for the young undocumented immigrants whose Obama-era protection from deportation was ended by Mr. Trump. They are also pushing for broader intervention in the opioid epidemic, a boost for veterans’ care, disaster relief to hurricane-stricken areas, and financing for the Children’s Health Insurance Program.

“Nothing is agreed to until everything is agreed to,” Representative Nancy Pelosi of California, the Democratic leader, said in an interview on Tuesday….

Shortly before Christmas, the House and Senate agreed on the stopgap spending bill that is keeping the government open through Jan. 19, punting other fights into the new year.

“It never seems to get any easier, right?” Representative Mario Diaz-Balart, Republican of Florida, said at the time. “January’s going to be a bear.”…..

Senator Rubio comes out AGAINST the Tax Bill….

Oh Snap!….

I’ve been saying that this is NOT a slam dunk….

There IS going to be trouble between what the Senate wants and the House…(If Lee , Rubio , Corker and Collins join Flake ?…And this vote rolls back to after Jones gets sworn in?…NO LAW…..

Stay tuned!

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) has informed Senate leaders he intends to vote against the Republicans’ $1.5 trillion tax plan unless it includes a larger expansion of a child tax credit, according to a Senate GOP source.

Rubio and Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) proposed a change to expand the tax credit as part of the tax bill that passed the Senate, but the plan was opposed by GOP leadership and voted down.

Lee is undecided on whether to support the bill, according to a Lee spokesperson.

If Rubio votes against the bill, Republicans can afford to only lose one more vote on their tax plan and pass it through the Senate. They control 52 seats in the Senate and need 50 to pass their bill, as Vice President Pence could break a tie. But Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) already opposes the plan because of its effect on the federal deficit.

As Republicans look to reconcile the House and Senate bills into a joint final version, Rubio and Lee have pushed a change to the child tax credit that would allow millions more low-income families to take advantage of the bill’s expanded credit…..

I have been saying the cahnces for passage is LESS than 50%….

Congress could force state’s to stop offering healthcare to low income families

The inability of the countries lawmakers in Washington DC to have feelings about the nations, poor, sick , people of color or even middle class is almost criminal….

It could cause people to lose their lives…

It seems like Republicans, who are the majority party for a country of over 300 MILLION people are deliberately disenfranchising whole groups of people…In taxes, immigration, and now healthcare?

Officials in nearly a dozen states are preparing to notify families that a crucial health insurance program for low-income children is running out of money for the first time since its creation two decades ago, putting coverage for many at risk by the end of the year.

Congress missed a Sept. 30 deadline to extend funding for CHIP, as the Children’s Health Insurance Program is known. Nearly 9 million youngsters and 370,000 pregnant women nationwide receive care because of it.

Many states have enough money to keep their individual programs afloat for at least a few months, but five could run out in late December if lawmakers do not act. Others will start to exhaust resources the following month.

The looming crunch, which comes despite CHIP’s enduring popularity and bipartisan support on Capitol Hill, has dismayed children’s health advocates.

“We are very concerned, and the reason is that Congress hasn’t shown a strong ability to get stuff done,” said Bruce Lesley, president of Washington-based First Focus, a child and family advocacy organization. “And the administration is completely out, has not even uttered a syllable on the issue. How this gets resolved is really unclear, and states are beginning to hit deadlines.”…
