White House: Trump is the one ‘keeping the world from chaos’…Open Thread for Oct. 6, 2017

Folling a well established routine ….

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders has made sure everyone, but mostly her boss Donald Trump KNOWS that HE is the man in charge of the American Government….

Not Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and chief of staff John Kelly whom Sen. Bob Corker named as the guys who “help separate our country from chaos.”…..

Asked about the comments from Corker, Sanders on Friday reminded the White House press corps at the daily briefing who’s in charge.

“Look, I think that the president is the one that’s keeping the world from chaos,” she said. “He has an incredible team around him that’s helping him lead that effort, and he’s had tremendous accomplishments on the international stage by working with allies and confronting enemies.”

“We’re gonna continue doing that,” she added. “We’re gonna continue doing that as a team with the president leading that effort.”….

Open Thread for Oct. 2, 2017…Las Vegas is the deadliest mass shooting in US history….

The sad , tragic and senseless part to these violent things is they CONTINUE to occur…..

Hurting innocent people……

While the Americans continue to buy and defend their rights to have the type of weapons that make these things possible….

The Sunday night mass shooting in Las Vegas is officially the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.

At least 50 were killed and 400 injured when a gunman opened fire on the audience at a country music festival from the 32nd floor of a nearby hotel. The suspected gunman, who was found dead, was identified as 64-year-old Stephen Paddock.

A former Las Vegas police officer told CBS News that the length and scope of the shooting were planned “immaculately,” and made it difficult to get first responders to the scene of the attack.

Before Las Vegas, the deadliest shooting had been the attack at Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida, where 49 people were killed in June 2016.

Prior to Orlando, the 2007 Virginia Tech shooting was the deadliest mass shooting in the country. A student at the university killed 32 people before killing himself.

The Sandy Hook shooting at an elementary school in Newtown, Conn., is now the fourth-deadliest mass shooting, where a gunman fatally shot 20 children and six adults in the school.

The death toll also makes the Las Vegas shooting the third-deadliest in the world….

Is the Trump’s Sports throw down cover fire for his upcoming Repeal and Alabama loses ?

Mike Allen over at Axios gives a look at how Trump’s people think his stirring the pot about sports teams will steal the spotlight and focus from Trump’s guy losing in the Tuesday specail US Senate election in Alabama AND the second US Senate failed attempt to repeal Obamacare….

Yes, there WILL BE silent protestactions before most of today’s NFL football games and yes the media IS gonna run with these protest vidio’s….

But Trump IS STILL gonna take two loses this week…..

And Robert Mueller is busy these days….

Mike Allen quoted former Clinton advisor Doug Sosnik on what President Trump is trying to accomplish by attacking professional athletes who protest during the national anthem: “One of Trump’s typical moves is to toss a bomb out of nowhere to deflect what is really bothering him, in the hopes that the press will be distracted.”

He added: “There is a good chance that the candidate he endorsed and campaigned for will lose in the Alabama Senate primary. On top of that, it looks like … another failed Republican attempt to repeal Obamacare. So he figures that the shows on Sunday focusing on his fights with professional athletes is more appealing than a discussion about how he is becoming a loser.”

Trump didn’t Really understand the ‘Dreamers’ Program move he made…Open Thread for Sept. 5, 2017…

Donald J. Trump promised that he would take care of the ‘Dreamers’….

Then he decided to throw the decesion to Congress and didn’t even make the announcement…The call to give the call to Congress wasn’t his idea..It was hius Cheif of Staff guy John Kelly’s…..

A few hours ago Trump updated his first condition , by saying that he would ‘revisit’ his threat of cancelling the program in 6 months ….

Presumerily indicatingb that he was afraid that Congress would get bogged down in trying make side deals on extending the protections he ACTUALLY want s extended to those involved and let the prgram run out and have Sessions going after the 800, 000 people an d their families involved….

Now we found out that Trump ACTUALLY DID NOT UNDERSTASND WHAT HE DOING when he went ahead with the call to shut down the program….

Why is this man the President of the United States?

….The announcement was an effort by Mr. Trump to honor the law-and-order message of his campaign, which included a repeated pledge to end Mr. Obama’s immigration policy, while seeking to avoid the emotionally charged and politically perilous consequences of targeting a sympathetic group of immigrants.

Mr. Trump’s decision came less than two weeks after he pardoned Joe Arpaio, the former Arizona sheriff who drew intense criticism for his aggressive pursuit of unauthorized immigrants, which earned him a criminal contempt conviction.

The blame-averse president told a confidante over the past few days that he realized that he had gotten himself into a politically untenable position. As late as one hour before the decision was to be announced, administration officials privately expressed concern that Mr. Trump might not fully grasp the details of the steps he was about to take, and when he discovered their full impact, would change his mind, according to a person familiar with their thinking who was not authorized to comment on it and spoke on condition of anonymity.

But ultimately, the president followed through on his campaign pledge at the urging of Mr. Sessions and other hard-line members inside his White House, including Stephen Miller, his top domestic policy adviser…

Donald Trump stands Defiant…And increasingly Alone…Open Thread for 8/16/17…

In a pattern that got him last years GOP Presidential nomination and the Presidency itself?

Donald J. Trump has pushed back against what is expected of person who is supposed to be leading the nation and LOUDLY proclaimed HIS version of the truth….

Pushed into walking away from the rightwingnuts that supported him and are against Minorities and Jews…

Trump doubled back to blaming the racial and religious  violence in Charlottesville on EVERYBODY except the White Power types that have been shown on TV being the aggressors…

We’ve always said here the Trump operates in an Alternate Universe and his actions recently seem to be proof…

A mixture of listening to rightwingnuts and anger at being led to do the ‘right thing’ seems to have made the man VERY angry and defiant…

(He STILL has his base people..But even that number is dropping in new polling…They seem to be ALL he has?)

And seems to be pushing him away from what ever support he has had from establishment GOPer’s…Not many are up front in chastising his action in the last 48 hours…But those same establishment GOP lawmakers that he needs to get any legislation passed ?….(Congress voted AGAINST him on Russian sanctions…There is NOT Obamacare Repeal and the Congress is getting ready to take away Trump’s ability to withhold Healthcare Insurance subsidies)

They have to be wondering WTF they would be going out on a limb to do what a New York Real Estate guy, who could give a shit about anybody but him wants….

“After Trump won the election he had the whole party behind him, except for some malcontents in Washington, but that’s shrinking now,” said one GOP strategist who requested anonymity to talk candidly about the president’s standing with his party.

“Even when all we heard about was the dysfunction and staff infighting and leaks, most Republicans were in lockstep behind the president,” the strategist said. “It feels like that is starting to break. It feels like this is getting away from him.”….

Trump threat forces GOPer’s to work with Dem’s to bail out Healthcare Insurers…Open Thread for 8/1/17….

Knew that Nobody was gonna stiff the Insurance Companies….

Donald Trump wants an Obamacare Repeal so HE can boast he got the deal that couldn’t be put together by Republicans in the Senate….

(The Repeal Effort is gone…)

He continues to operate the same way he did during the campaign….

Throwing at people….

While that worked last year?

It seems to have worn out its welcome in Congress….

Congressional Republicans moved on Tuesday to defuse President Trump’s threat to cut off critical payments to health insurance companies, maneuvering around the president toward bipartisan legislation to shore up insurance markets under the Affordable Care Act.

Senator Lamar Alexander of Tennessee, the influential chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, announced that his panel would begin work in early September on legislation to “stabilize and strengthen the individual health insurance market” for 2018. He publicly urged Mr. Trump to continue making payments to health insurance companies to reimburse them for reducing the out-of-pocket medical expenses of low-income people.

In the House, two Republicans, Representatives Tom Reed of New York and Charlie Dent of Pennsylvania, teamed with Democrats to promote incremental health legislation that would also fund the cost-sharing subsidies.

The moves were a remarkable response to the president’s repeated threats to send health insurance markets into a tailspin. They offered tangible indications of cooperation between the parties after Republican efforts to scrap the Affordable Care Act collapsed in the Senate last week, all but ending the seven-year Republican quest to overturn President Barack Obama’s signature domestic achievement. Lawmakers from both parties concede that the health law needs improvement, as consumers face sharp premium increases and a shrinking number of insurance options in many states….

Donald Trump has been President for Six Months…Open Thread for 7/16/17….

Actually ?

It will be six month on July 20, 2017….

Some of us didn’t think he’d get this far….

But he HAS muddled thru….

His numbers haven’t moved much…..

And the Russian questions still define his time in office….They won’t be put to bed until Robert Mueller hands down his call…..

So?

Image result for Trump

I’m betting he doesn’t last for the whole four years….

We’ll see….

Trump’s election reflected many voters’ exasperation with the status quo and sense of permanent estrangement from some gilded clique of winners. He was their pyrrhic retort. How much hotter will their anger burn when they realize they got played?

I’m more likely to win a season of “The Bachelorette” than he is to build that incessantly promised wall. His professed disdain for Wall Street was a campaign-season pose, abandoned the minute he started assembling his administration. Health care that’s better, cheaper and more universal? Oh, please.

It’s possible that Trump’s fans will never blame him, because of one of his most self-serving and corrosive feats: the stirring of partisanship and distrust of institutions into the conviction that there’s no such thing as objective truth. There are only rival claims. There are always “alternative facts.” Charges of mere bias are the antiquated weapons of yesteryear; “fake news” is the new nullifier, and it’s a phrase so dear to him that his unprincipled acolytes are building on it. Last week a Trump adviser, Sebastian Gorka, lashed out at the “fake news industrial complex.” Trump reportedly swooned.

What happens to a democracy whose citizens not only lose common ground but also take a match to the idea of a common reality? Thanks in part to Trump, we may find out. He doesn’t care about civility or basic decency, and even if he did, he lacks the discipline to yoke his actions to any ideals. The Democratic strategist Doug Sosnik expressed it perfectly, telling me, “His presidency is what happens when you have road rage in the Oval Office.”….

The Senate Healthcare Bill would hurt MORE people than the House one…Open Thread for June 15, 2017

Media reports on the Senate stealth healthcare bill write up points to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell doing about the same thing as Speaker Ryan….

Crafting a bill that will hurt millions of Americans JUST to be able to say their party did SOMETHING….

Any change to the Affordable Healthcare Law, slang named Obamacare is viewed as INCREASING UN POPULAR to the American public ACROSS the board….

Why?

Congressional Republicans and President Trump seem hell-bent on pushing through a bill to replace parts of the Affordable Care Act. “Duh,” you say, “the Republicans have been promising to repeal Obamacare since literallythe day it was passed.”

But here’s where things get interesting. We tend to assume political parties want to get their policy goals adopted, but also to stay in power. Republicans won control of Congress in 2010 in part because Democrats pushed through a health care bill that the plurality of voters did not approve of, according to several major polls from that time. The Republicans are doing the same thing now, only their health care bill is significantly more unpopular than the ACA was in 2010.

So why are Republicans so determined to pass a bill that they already seem to know is not popular and could hurt them in next year’s elections? It’s almost impossible to determine exactly what drives a politician’s actions, particularly because sometimes the reasons they give publicly are not their only or primary motives. So while we can’t prove anything, we can still identify four likely reasons that Republicans are pushing so hard on health care….

Note….

Trump just mentioned that he thought the House Bill was ‘mean’……

….

The latest: Even though Republicans had raised expectations that they were finishing a draft bill, it turns out that GOP leaders actually submitted multiple policy options to the budget office — partly explaining why senators won’t say much about their bill, let alone release a draft of it.

Both the bill and its CBO score will be public eventually, and there’s nothing inherently scandalous about trying to run the traps on a piece of legislation before bringing it to the floor.

The problem: What happens next? How long will the bill be publicly available before a vote? Will policy experts have time to digest it, and will voters have time to process that analysis? Will there be a real, good-faith opportunity for senators to offer amendments? GOP leaders have already short-circuited an awful lot of the process by not holding hearings or committee markups.

Working with CBO now will likely help Senate Republicans avoid the kind of bad-news bombshells the House experienced — but it’s making that July 4 timetable look less and less realistic.

Who could lose from state health benefit limits

Data: CAP analysis, 2015 American Community Survey, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, 2017 Willis Towers Watson Survey; Table: Andrew Witherspoon / Axios

The Senate health care bill is expected to allow states to relax the Affordable Care Act rules only on benefits, not on pricing as the House bill does. But that change could impact people far beyond those states, according to a new analysis by the liberal Center for American Progress — because it could lead to a return of annual and lifetime benefit limits, and not just in the states with the waivers….

A Healthcare Repeal is not gonna happen this year…Open Thread for June 2, 2017

The above conclusion is from Richard Burr , a Republican Senator from North Carolina……

Those of us who look under the covers at stuff like this KNEW that the blowback from across America to deprive ten’s of millions of American ‘s of their healthcare insurance coverage by House Republicans to make Donald Trump happy was not a smart political move….

One would doubt a strong effort would be mounted next year by Republicans either with Midterm elections  coming up.and people made enough to crash Republican lawmakers town hall get together’s…

The Republicans now own Barack Obama ‘s healthcare hot potato ….

And after all these years?

They find themselves unable to deal with getting rid of it…

This is an issue that Democrats SHOULD be making sure to run on from now on….

Ya Gets’ what ya vote for?…Donald Trump…Open Thread for May 22, 2017….

It’s been 122 days since Donald Trump moved into America’s White House….

I have written President Trump about 3 times here at the PDog in those 122 days….

I have written a LOT about Donald Trump’s bumbling in these past months….

I wrote a LOT about how Trump wasn’t qualified to be President and I think I got THAT Right….

But millions of people out there in America voted FOR Donald J. Trump ….Less than voted for Hillary Clinton by about THREE MILLON….

That’s the  way things work in America…. You CAN win the election if you get votes in certain places even if you get less overall….Trump surprised MOST of us and won the Presidency by less than 100,000 votes out of 140 MILLION or so ….

Turns out the people who voted FOR Trump believed him when he said the whole US Government was ‘rigged’….

Now that Trump IS the Government?

Things haven’t changed from the campaign….

He say’s crazy things that often make NO sense…

Even his party members in the House and Senate decided that THEY would draft an 2017 budget that had few of Trump campaign things in it….

Trump said he’s make sure NO one lost their Healthcare coverage….But that’s isn’t what is coming out of the GOP House with Trump’s Budget wishes….DEEP cuts is what he’s looking for…

Trump ranted about how Hillary Clinton couldn’t be trusted?

But Trump is out there GIVING the countries secrets away to the Russians IN THE White House….

It has got so bad with him countermining his staff in public  (Trump continues to be Trump) that we now wait for the next morning to get Trump’s REAL feelings on anything…

No Wall…

No Muslim Ban….

But we STILL can count on Trump to keep trying to stop HIS government people from investigating his buddies getting cozy with the Russians…Its gotten to Trump telling the Russians he’s trying to bury the probe HIS government is making against His  former and present campaign staff buddies….

For Now?

Trump STILL has a LOT of people happy that he’s in the White House even if he’s hard on offering up cuts for their benefits and hasn’t followed thru on getting them jobs…

Around 40% of Americans, according to polls, actually think Donald Trump is doing a Good Job….But…..

The other 60% of us didn’t vote for the guy ….

We’re NOT Happy….

We didn’t vote for this…..

We’re living with what the ‘other guys’ voted for….

It’s a Democracy , Right?

Comey’s side …Trump wanted his ‘loyalty.’…Open Thread for May 11, 2017…

It is indeed strange times for America….

A President under investigation along with his close associates ?

That same President invites the guy doing the investigation?….

The Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation to a private dinner?

Then HE SAYS he asks the FBI Director if he’s being investigated ?

He also admits that asked the FBI Director THREE TIMES if he was being looked at?

But it gets worse…

We ALL KNOW Trump fires the guy for about 15 different stated reason that change everyday but amount to Trump being pissed that the FBI Director was spending SO MUCH time investigating Trump people and their possible Russian connections,  the fact that Comey was all over the media and that Trump REALLY didn’t like the guy?…..

Now we have James Comey out with his side of the story, since in dealing with Donald Trump the truth is often bent to fit Trump’s view of reality….

Comey now say he was pressed several time ‘s to give Donald Trump his ‘loyalty’…..

Hmmmm?

REALY?

WTF did Trump mean?

In some eyes a President being across the table from his chief cop , who is probing contact HIS buddies had with Russians, who in the past have LENT Trump MILLIONS of dollars to keep his businesses afloat asking such question could interpreted as intimidating…..

THAT could launch ANOTHER investigation and if it had someone else like Hillary Clinton?…The Republicans would be SCREAMING  IMPEACHMENT….

Things aren’t going to that point right now because Republicans have hitched their wagon to Donald Trump and most seem to be willing to go down with a Trump ship if it comes to that….

Ok?

Who do you believe?

A worried Donald Trump who BADLY wants to hook up with the Russians who have been ‘loyal’ to his bank account in the past?

Or an ex-FBI Director that has made some mistakes in the last year but should know better than to have told a possible subject of his troops probing that he was in the clear….THREE TIMES?

And BTW?

It just keeps Dripping and Dripping…..

And it will keep getting worst….

Overtime Trump opens his mouth…

Govt Shutdown on the line …Trump backs away from the ‘Wall’…Open Thread for April 24, 2017…

Coming up being stuck between an rock and hard place?

Donald Trump appears to have blinked….

No ONE want’s his monstrasity of a wall build between Mexico and the American border states…

There is no apitite for it from Democrats or Republicans….

Image result for ryan /schumer

There is no need for it with border aprehesions dropped by 60% since Trump started lowering the hammer on illegals at the border and around the country…

And there is NO money for this campiagn dream project either…

So it appears that Trump has signalled that he will withdrawn his demand that a ‘new beautiful 30 foot wall be constructed and settle for some drone’s and smart technology to add to the border effort ….Thus helping his adopted party solve one of the two major obstacles in the way of getting a budget….The other is the idea of Repealing Obamacare…THAT isn’t gonna happen the way he wants either…

And…

The Mexicans where NEVER gonna  pay for the thinbg and smart lawmakers aren’t gonna have Americans anti up the money either….

(Of course Trump is still bullshitting outloud about the wall..But lawmakers aren’t paying much attention to his tweets )…

….Republicans were working to define Trump’s campaign promise down, arguing that any form of border security would fulfill it.

“There will never be a 2,200-mile wall built, period,” said Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.), a supporter of immigration reform who challenged Trump in the 2016 primaries. “I think it’s become symbolic of better border security. It’s a code word for better border security. If you make it about actually building a 2,200-mile wall, that’s a bridge too far — but I’m mixing my metaphors.”

Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio), a key appropriator and member of Senate leadership, said that “there could be a wall in some places and technology in other places,” implying that there would not be funding for the wall sketched out in campaign rhetoric. “I think you’re going to get a down payment on border security generally,” he said….

Among other guarantees, Democrats want assurances that insurance subsidies through the Affordable Care Act will continue to be funded. There have been discussions among Republicans that Democrats could agree to provide money for the construction of the wall in exchange for those health funds, but Democrats have refused.

Sunday morning, congressional Democrats submitted to Republicans a compromise spending plan, which included some new money for border security but only if it did not go toward a wall. Democrats also asked for assurances that the health insurance subsidies would continue to be funded, language that would shore up benefits for coal miners and a change that would expand Medicaid benefits to people in Puerto Rico, according to a senior Democratic congressional aide.

Military Power has got this country into problems…Open Thread for April 13, 2017

I just saw something that I think is crazy and dangerous….

There are reports that the Trump Admin is ‘leaking’ threats to attack North Korea attempts to put together a nuclear ballistic missile test…

Yes …ATTACK , like the Israeli’s did back in the day in the Middle East…

I hope this isn’t a game of chicken…

North Korea is country that has a huge military…

Soeul, The main city in South Korea is only 30 miles from the DMZ, which has tens’s of thousands of US and South Korean soldiers….

A strong push by more than 100,000 communist troops is gonna be a problem…

Trump and the General’s have surely been emboldened by their Syrian and Afghanistan military actions…

But neither country is anywhere close to the ability of the North Korean military which is thought to have simple nuclear weapons and military in the millions…

I hope cooler heads prevail….

America does NOT need to go back to World War II fighting two military actions on both sides of the planet…

In a statement Thursday, North Korea issued a warning to the U.S. — should it take action — of a “merciless retaliatory strike.”

“By relentlessly bringing in a number of strategic nuclear assets to the Korean peninsula, the US is gravely threatening the peace and safety and driving the situation to the brink of a nuclear war,” North Korea’s statement said.

South Korea foreign minister Yun Byung said U.S. officials have “repeatedly reaffirmed that” the U.S. “will closely discuss with South Korea its North Korea-related measures.”

“In fact, the U.S. is working to reassure us that it will not, just in case that we might hold such concerns.”

President Trump on Thursday tweeted that he has “great confidence that China will properly deal with North Korea.”

“If they are unable to do so, the U.S., with its allies, will! USA,” the president tweeted….

Trump helping Democrats say ‘NO’ and bond…Open Thread for March 27, 2017…

While everyone went around holding their head in dispair after Hillary Clinton won the popular vote , but lost the election?

Subsequent sloppy , egomaniac and plain dumb moves by Trump & Co. have resulted in rising support for President Obama’s Healthcare program and less harsh Immigration action’s….

The Resistance protests and demo’s have embolden Democrats to follow in the Grand Ole Parties footsteps and dig in TOGETHER …say NO...and standby while the Republicans fight their OWN internal battles and spend their days cleaning up behind a guy whose true wanting abilities to get things done isn’t anything like he’s sold to the public…

But Democrats will not be lending a hand anytime soon.

Invigorated by the Republican dysfunction that led to a stunningly swift collapse of the effort to repeal the Affordable Care Act, and relieved that President Barack Obama’s signature domestic accomplishment remains intact, Democrats are in their best position since their embarrassing loss in the November election.

While it is far too soon to suggest that the House Republican majority may be imperiled, Democrats are newly optimistic about picking up seats in 2018, hoping to ride a backlash against Mr. Trump. Seeing an opportunity, they say they will not throw Mr. Trump a political life preserver at what they sense could be the first turns of a downward spiral.

The president’s approval rating was already mired below 40 percent in some surveys, and is likely to remain low after the health bill’s failure. He has no prospects for legislative victories on the immediate horizon, given how complicated and time-consuming his next priority, an overhaul of the tax code, would be even for a more unified party.

And while his electoral success in states represented by Democrats in Congress had been thought to put such lawmakers in a vise between their party and their president, Mr. Trump demonstrated no ability to pick off centrist Democrats in his first significant legislative push. Democrats — red-state moderates and blue-state liberals alike — formed an unbroken front of opposition to the repeal-and-replace campaign.

“We’re not going to sacrifice our values for the sake of compromise,” said Senator Chuck Schumer of New York, the Democratic leader. “You think people from red states are going to be for tax reform with 98 percent of tax breaks going to the top 1 percent?”

For Democrats, the task of remaining unified was made easier when Republicans decided to go it alone and hastily draft a bill that turned out to be deeply unpopular. But the health care skirmish was also more broadly instructive for a party still finding its footing now that it has lost both the White House and Congress: Being the “party of no,” it turns out, can pay dividends…..
