The NFL’s compensation committee — of which the Patriots’ Robert Kraft is one of six members — sent a memo to all 32 owners on Wednesday advising them “that a binding contract extension has been signed by the Commissioner and by [Falcons owner] Arthur Blank, on behalf of the League entities.”
Blank is the chairman of the compensation committee, and Wednesday’s announcement all but seals a victory in a power struggle with Jones, who had a nasty back-and-forth with Blank and threatened a lawsuit against the NFL if it went ahead with its contract with Goodell.
Jones was displeased with Goodell’s compensation package, which per multiple reports will be $200 million over five years, based mostly on incentives. But the compensation committee has reminded Jones repeatedly that the NFL owners voted, 32-0, in May to give the committee the power to execute an extension with Goodell….
