Alabama GOP party members will meet about Moore on the ballot…

The number of women accusing their guy running for the US Senate is increasing almost daily….

It may not matter..

But other Republican Senators in Congress seem to be NOT happy about his possibe arrival there….

…..The 21 members of Alabama’s Republican Party central steering committee are the only ones who can pull Roy Moore’s nomination and potentially block his path to the Senate. After days of mounting allegations that their Senate nominee had sexual contact with teenage girls while he was in his 30s, two Alabama GOP sources tell TPM they’ve finally decided to hold a meeting later this week to hash out whether they can stand by his side.

“We are still weighing the evidence, but realize some decision or statement must come from the state party soon,” said one Alabama Republican.

Most members of the committee have so far stayed silent, worried about fury from Moore backers if they reject him and damage to their own political careers no matter what they do.

But as the allegations pile up against their nominee, they’re creeping towards making a decision on whether to stand by Moore or pull the party nomination and back a possible write-in campaign, a move which further dims their hopes of holding the seat….

  1. So on Politicalwire there’s a story about a robocall that went out in Alabama of a supposed Washington Post reported looking to pay 5 to 10 grand for women to come forward with stories about encounters with Roy Moore. The “reporter’s” name ? Bernie Bernstein.

Gee. Subtle. I’m surprised they didn’t just go with Jewy Jewenstein.

  2. Apparently the head if the AL GOP has threatened future ballot access for officials who don’t back Moore. Yeah sounds like they are going all in with the molester.

It does appear to be a split with the national party distancing themselves from Moore but the state party holding firm. Kind of reminds me of the split between the national and southern state Democratic parties in the 60s that led to the Dixiecrats.

If Trump comes out against Moore maybe Roy will be the candidate of the Alabama Republican Party in 2020. Probably not.

    1. Roll Call is reporting s ratings change for the Alabama US Senate special election..

      It’s now a toss up…

      Right now?

Do we KNOW WHO voters will have to vote for?

      1. Another poll , NRSC , has Jones AHEAD of Moore
        By 12% points….
If the polling actually starts to run together with Doug Jones?
What does the Alabama GOP do?

        1. Oh Snap!

Sabato now labels Alabama Special US Democratic race LEANS DEMOCRATIC!

Could this be the be the beginning of the race cratering to the Democrats ….

Does the GOP chip away at its majority?
Is the US Senate majority in play next year????

          1. Alabama GOP Appears to Still Support Roy Moore

The Alabama Republican Party will reportedly continue to support Roy Moore as allegations of sexual misconduct rock the Senate contest.

NBC News first reported that the state GOP would maintain its support for Moore, its Senate nominee and a former chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court, after the steering committee met Wednesday night. It is too late to remove his name from the ballot. But the party does have the option of formally withdrawing Moore as its nominee for the seat vacated by former Sen. Jeff Sessions, meaning votes for him in the Dec. 12 special election would not be counted….

  3. Maybe there’s a chance it will happen, but I really can’t see the Alabama Republican Party rejecting Moore as their candidate.
