Mueller probe update 9/12/17…’Don’t lie to protect Trump’….

That’s the advice Trump’s staff and supporters are being given as they prepare to sit down with FBI agents and Mueller lawyers….

Just relate what actually happened….Don’t lie to the investigators who will check your story with others….

Observers feel the staff people are NOT the target here…

But Mueller’s people want to get a base idea of what went on with the President himself , his son and son-in-law and several close aides on a possible cover up of certain actions and the firing of James Comey to stop the Russian investigation…

“What I always tell clients is you can’t protect anybody. You can only hurt yourself,” said a lawyer representing a client involved in the Russia probe. The attorney added that any overt attempts to protect Trump will raise wider suspicions of a cover-up, making matters “worse for everybody.”

“Efforts to concoct a story to protect somebody are almost inevitably doomed to failure,” the attorney explained. “All you do is create liability to yourself that didn’t exist before.”

Mueller’s investigation and multiple probes on Capitol Hill have expanded to include the Trump family’s interactions with Russians as well as business deals involving the Trump Organization. The federal prosecutors and congressional investigators are doing their homework as they build substantive factual records through document requests, subpoenas and interviews.

That’s something the lawyers representing Trump officials say they can’t impress enough on their clients, especially when one of the most potent weapons Mueller and his team have to gain leverage centers around anyone who makes misleading statements or other trip-ups.

“The lesson to be always learned is loyalty is one thing, but are you prepared to go to jail for it?” said former Whitewater special counsel Robert Ray. “The answer to that question should be no.”….

  1. Another prosecutor joins Trump-Russia probe

An attorney working on the Justice Department’s highest-profile money laundering case recently transferred off that assignment in order to join the staff of the special prosecutor investigating the Trump campaign’s potential ties to Russia, POLITICO has learned.

Attorney Kyle Freeny was among the prosecutors on hand Friday as a spokesman for former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, Jason Maloni, testified before a grand jury at federal court in Washington.

Freeny, whose assignment to Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s staff has not been previously reported, is the 16th lawyer known to be working with the former FBI chief on the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election. She departed from the courthouse Friday with two other members of Mueller’s squad: former Criminal Division chief and Enron prosecutor Andrew Weissman and Civil Division appellate attorney Adam Jed, a former clerk to Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens….

  2. Mueller’s probe looks to social media for Russia info

The last two grafs of a Wall Street Journal story on page A4, “Facebook Gave Special Counsel Robert Mueller More Details on Russian Ad Buys Than Congress,” could turn out to be the lead of the Mueller Report, and his indictment of the modern info consumption machine….

“Lawmakers also signaled they are considering new legislation to address online spending by foreign adversaries—a potential blow to the firms’ cherished freedom from close government oversight.”

Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.), about the possible need for more controls on internet companies: “This is a Wild, Wild West.”

(Could the Russian’s be the reason the American Government steps in to begin regulating the American social media giants and by that everyone else?…..PS?…THat might NOT be so bad?)

  3. It appears that Trump’s lead PERSONAL lawyer doesn’t trust the President’s Government lawyer…..

President Trump’s legal team is wrestling with how much to cooperate with the special counsel looking into Russian election interference, an internal debate that led to an angry confrontation last week between two White House lawyers and that could shape the course of the investigation.

At the heart of the clash is an issue that has challenged multiple presidents during high-stakes Washington investigations: how to handle the demands of investigators without surrendering the institutional prerogatives of the office of the presidency. Similar conflicts during the Watergate and Monica S. Lewinsky scandals resulted in court rulings that limited a president’s right to confidentiality.

The debate in Mr. Trump’s West Wing has pitted Donald F. McGahn II, the White House counsel, against Ty Cobb, a lawyer brought in to manage the response to the investigation. Mr. Cobb has argued for turning over as many of the emails and documents requested by the special counsel as possible in hopes of quickly ending the investigation — or at least its focus on Mr. Trump…..

  4. Remember Trump’s personal lawyer is about Trump ONLY….

The President’s White House counsels more about the office and the President and its powers….

“Assertions of privilege are the exception to the rule that the law is entitled to every man’s evidence, and in this instance it is critical in our judgment that the president be fully transparent with the special counsel in this inquiry,”
