Trump didn’t Really understand the ‘Dreamers’ Program move he made…Open Thread for Sept. 5, 2017…

Donald J. Trump promised that he would take care of the ‘Dreamers’….

Then he decided to throw the decesion to Congress and didn’t even make the announcement…The call to give the call to Congress wasn’t his idea..It was hius Cheif of Staff guy John Kelly’s…..

A few hours ago Trump updated his first condition , by saying that he would ‘revisit’ his threat of cancelling the program in 6 months ….

Presumerily indicatingb that he was afraid that Congress would get bogged down in trying make side deals on extending the protections he ACTUALLY want s extended to those involved and let the prgram run out and have Sessions going after the 800, 000 people an d their families involved….

Now we found out that Trump ACTUALLY DID NOT UNDERSTASND WHAT HE DOING when he went ahead with the call to shut down the program….

Why is this man the President of the United States?

….The announcement was an effort by Mr. Trump to honor the law-and-order message of his campaign, which included a repeated pledge to end Mr. Obama’s immigration policy, while seeking to avoid the emotionally charged and politically perilous consequences of targeting a sympathetic group of immigrants.

Mr. Trump’s decision came less than two weeks after he pardoned Joe Arpaio, the former Arizona sheriff who drew intense criticism for his aggressive pursuit of unauthorized immigrants, which earned him a criminal contempt conviction.

The blame-averse president told a confidante over the past few days that he realized that he had gotten himself into a politically untenable position. As late as one hour before the decision was to be announced, administration officials privately expressed concern that Mr. Trump might not fully grasp the details of the steps he was about to take, and when he discovered their full impact, would change his mind, according to a person familiar with their thinking who was not authorized to comment on it and spoke on condition of anonymity.

But ultimately, the president followed through on his campaign pledge at the urging of Mr. Sessions and other hard-line members inside his White House, including Stephen Miller, his top domestic policy adviser…

Barack Obama said in response to the Trump’s reverasl action….. it was soley ‘Political’…NOT legal and’ Cruel and Self Sefeating ‘….

He was right…..

Now Trump seems stuck….

    1. Politico @ politico

Tom Price is the first Trump administration Cabinet secretary to step down

  1. Well, I recall that Roy Moore has told us that Sharia law applies in Illinois, so CG must be under a lot of stress right now.

No doubt this is less problematic to him than what any Democratic candidate said. For example, it is possible that the Moore’s Democratic opponent just might support a treaty with Iran!

  2. Again this is just deflection. His party is solidly lining up behind Roy Moore. And why wouldn’t they? They solidly lined up behind Trump.

  3. And if course CG wants us to know that he is opposed to murder, with the implication that many are not. Good for him. That’s nice.

  4. I’m also happy Congressman Scalise is recovering from this terrible crine(though I did see one headline saying “Scalia Returns” –D’oh!)

But noting that Scalise should maybe rethink his position on the mentally ill and guns isn’t the same as wishing someone murdered. Gimme a break.

  5. I recall how CG also said that Lindsay Graham is one of his favorite Senators. I recall how CG wanted to privatize health insurance to give more people “freedom” (his word). When I asked what would happen to those who were physically and mentally lacking, he said Medicaid would take care of them. And of course the Graham bill would have slashed Medicaid.

But we are not to make value judgments because using words like ‘evil’ upsets CG. He feels Republican values are just differences in opinion. and yes, unfortunately for him, I do understand why he would prefer we not make value judgments.

  6. Scalise, so glad he recovered from his wounds.

He should thank the Affordable Care Act. Members of Congress have the best health care, the rest of the Country should too.

But, this is the same Steve Scalise who voted to let the mentally ill buy guns, and then, of course, got shot by a mentally ill person.

And, it is the same Steve Scalise who was the keynote speaker at a White Supremacist Convention that, among other stands it took, condemned non-Christians (that means Jews too) who are a danger to the American way of life.

So, while we all think that gun violence is something to condemn, actions speak louder than words. And, Scalise was and is reckless with his votes and policy positions concerning guns. I know of several Republicans who would say he asked for it.

  7. Glad he is back and glad he got a standing ovation.

Surely, there will be “good karma” for those who have wished him well.

    1. If anyone hasn’t heard?
Rep. Scalise returned to work in the Congress today after being wounded in a ball field attack…..
      He got a standing ovation……

  8. The year 5778 is hours away (and I likely will not be around tomorrow). Hopefully, good things can come of years that end in ’78.

  9. Yeah – the place was packed. It always is in East Rutherford. A lot of Lion fans. I was surprised.

The Giant offense was inept. No rushing attack whatsoever.

  10. Was the place full? Just read an article on how professional football attendance is down. It has been years since I went to a Bears games, we gave up our season tickets years ago.

    1. I hope you enjoyed the game Z…..

      I didn’t watching it…..

McAdoo needs to be gone and the new guy…whoever….. needs to put together a credible front offense line….

    1. Congress seldom stops American President’s from pursuing military actions….

It isn’t changing that now either….

As long as Mattis is keeping an eye on the store….

  12. Maria is due to hit the English-speaking island nation of Dominica in the Windward Islands (midway between the French island departments of Martinique and Guadeloupe, rather south of St Martin/Sint Maarten, St Barthélemy, Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, which were devastated by Irma) before she crosses through the middle of Puerto Rico, possibly touching the Dominican Republic, and then shoots northwestwards between the Bahamas and the Turks & Caicos Islands.

    1. She is following Irma’s start
But is projected to stay on the Atlantic side of the state….
Not as big as Irma…..At least not now….
We are due to get rain and some win drawn from Jose during the next two days…

  14. The City of Detroit was almost forced to sell of that (then-municipally-owned) art museum, you may remember, when Detroit was bankrupt and liquidating assets under a state Receiver.

Now, I believe, after a great deal of excited agitation among people both within and outside Detroit, the museum is owned by a non-profit institution.
