House Oversight Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) will not run for reelection in 2018, he announced on Facebook Wednesday.

“After long consultation with my family and prayerful consideration, I have decided I will not be a candidate for any office in 2018,” he wrote. “I have made a personal decision to return to the private sector.”

  1. Wow!….

The guy is looking to book right away?

    CNN Breaking News‏@cnnbrk
Rep. Jason Chaffetz, chairman of House oversight committee, says he may not finish out his term in Congress

  2. He’s expected to resign tomorrow now. Either he has a really lucrative job he is about to begin or something very bad is going to be coming out.

  3. Can Mitt get his act together quickly or will Evan beat him to it?

I suspect lots of Republican retirements coming up before the end of the year.

  4. I wouldn’t be surprised if CG is right and a shoe is about to drop on this prick.

But he’s probably just cashing out.

  5. Chaffetz was pushing back on the report that he is leaving immediately and saying that it could be months from now and that there absolutely nothing about to break. Initially, it seemed like he was just laying the groundwork to run for Governor in 2020, but maybe he’s going to join the private sector.

  6. Private sector WAS mentioned….

But man this sure is unusual for such a high profile guy…
