James P. “Jamie” Rubin, the former assistant secretary of state, has resigned after a year and a half as a commissioner of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and counselor to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo on international issues, to move to London with his wife, Christiane Amanpour, CNN’s chief international correspondent and ABC’s global affairs anchor.

Amanpour has been anchoring her daily foreign-affairs program on CNN International, “Amanpour,” from New York and now will air from London, where she will be closer to many of the hot spots she needs to visit for both networks.

Of his work with the Port Authority, Rubin said: “I got a real intense dose of New York politics … I operated in international affairs, but I had never really gone down into the real nitty-gritty of local politics. So I learned a lot about mayors and governors. … And I learned a lot about Jersey politics, which I knew nothing about. And I tell you: That’s hard core. …
