Political Roundup for October 28, 2012…Red State

by: shamlet
Welcome to the last full week before the election. Because there’s so much news and commentary, we’re switching to a three-roundups-a-day plan for the next week and a half.

President:

Lena Dunham: Her risque new Obama ad, implicitly equating voting to sex, is causing a lot of disgust.

Des Moines Register: They endorsed Romney, picking a Republican for the first time since 1972.

Twitter: Here’s a cool aggregator of Obama/Romney tweets by state.

Congress:

AZ-Sen: Responding to an ad showing them praising Carmona at his Surgeon General confirmation hearing, Republican Sens. Jon Kyl and John McCain cut an ad for Jeff Flake yesterday. Expect this Kyl anecdote about Carmona’s interest in the perks of being a surgeon general to get play.

WI-Sen: Tommy Thompson really walloped Tammy Baldwin at their latest debate.

TN-4: Scott DesJarlais’s October Surprise keeps getting worse. A second ex-girlfriend has come forward, alleging two new misdeeds in addition to a second affair: The two used marijuana during their dates, and DesJarlais prescribed pain medication for her during one of their dates. Expect Republicans to bite their tongue for the next week to avoid forfeiting this seat, but do not be the slightest bit surprised to hear calls for his resignation from all sides slightly after the election.

RI-1: OnMessage (best known for doing Hovde’s stuff in the WI-Sen primary; they were pretty good there) for Brendan Doherty (R): Doherty 45 Cicilline (D) 39 Vogel (I) 6.

Gerrymandering: A great piece debunking the “Gerrymandering leads to polarization” fallacy….
