(Jon Moe/ ASSOCIATED PRESS ) – The extended Romney family at their vacation home on the shore of Lake Winnipesaukee in Wolfeboro, N.H. in July 2007.

This weekend, Mitt Romney is starting his annual summer vacation on his lakefront compound here — a week of fun and family, though not entirely carefree.
The Romneys, 30 in all these days, spend their time away from the stresses of everyday life — like, say, wrapping up the Republican nomination for president — by following a highly orchestrated, highly competitive regimen of sports and games known as the “Romney Olympics.”

Attractive family. but a little eccentric to tell everyone to wear a white or blue shirt.
Just like the Kennedys: highly competitive sports.
I hope that no Romney has to die, as a Kennedy died from ski football with the family.
At least the Bushes stick (I think) to baseball, sailing and horseshoes, and the Obamas to basketball.
No strays eh?
A typical?
Amazing, not one of them signed up for service to their country. Only the Church. Go figure.
Being a missionary is, in many ways, a service to our country, and can be just as dangerous as what combat soldiers do.
We are a nation rooted in Christian beliefs, and the Bible encourages all to spread the word.
In a Christian nation, how is this not a service to our country?
Missionaries go to places that are, in some ways, more dangerous than where our troops go.
Look no further than the dictator states in Africa.
You won’t hear about this much, as the network news(ABC, CBS, NBC) doesn’t report on it.
Keith ……
I believe it’s just the way the guy and family works…
We got money….
EVERYONE ELSE works….
Agreed SE…..
But I could look at the service in ANOTHER way….
They seek to expand their groups influence…
That’s all….
It’s been going on in the name of religion’s since we humans could communicate
Christians, Islamists and others….
Being a missionary is in most cases admirable work
But SE’s comments about this being a “Christian nation” and that missionary work is somehow equal to service to our nation are so far off base I don’t know where to begin.
Documents such as the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Pledge of Allegiance refer to the USA as “one nation under God.”
this country has ALWAYS mentioned having GOD as a partner….
but has strove to be secular…
there ARE sections of this country that are closer to religion than others…
While Mormons consider themselves Christians, I think it is a stretch for anyone else to consider them Christians. For example, Mormons believe in the existence of other gods, and believe in a sacred book (the book of Mormon) that has nothing to do with traditional Christianity. That is kind of like calling Muslims Christians because they believe in the old testament, while ignoring the fact that they consider the Koran to be sacred.
I hope that SE believes that the presidency should not be limited to people with a Christian belief. If so, I congradulate SE for his liberal belief on this.
Just as I wouldn’t consider Louis Farrakan as having provided service to this country, I don’t consider Romney as providing service either.
Agreed.
Rural areas are much more religious than urban and suburban areas by a good stretch.
Then again, rural areas are less rooted in materialism than are urban/suburban areas.
The reason being that there are fewer shopping districts in rural areas.
Religious institutions provide services that local governments would supply in other sections of the country
Mission work encompasses all Christian faiths, and is thereby not just confined to Mormonism.
All mission work is service.
Whether is is helpful or detrimental is determinable only by the server and the served, and should not be determined based on pre-conceived notions about the odds and sods of Christianity, such as Mormonism and Jehovia’s Witness, and secular entities, such as Islam and the Democrat Party.
It is hard for me to fathom the idea postulated by SE that people who don’t want to live near a lot of other people (rural residents) are somehow more concerned with people than those who choose to live near a lot of other people (urban residents). From my exposure to rural people, I have found that a lot of them couldn’t care about society in general as long as their needs are met.
I obviously struck a cord here. It is impossible to classify missionary work, especially in France, as service to the United States of America. Perhaps service to a corporation called the Mormon Church, and clearly service to avoid the draft and Viet Nam — but not service to this Nation.
Why are you complaining about Vietnam draft dodgers when it was mostly your kind, most notably Liberal hero Bill Clinton, that dodged it?
You only complain when the other side does it.
It’s people like Keith that helped George Bush win a second term.
Planning any anti war bombings Keith?
Like I said, missionary work in France is not service to this Nation. Although Willard did become fluent in French. He even looks a little French.
“Like I said, missionary work in France is not service to this Nation. Although Willard did become fluent in French. He even looks a little French.”
Maybe he is French!
Make MSNBC puch it and then demand Willard shows us his birth certificate!
That is if the Mexicans will allow it.
PS:Gotta jet! Have a good 4th of july all!
Surely you see a difference between opposing the war because you were morally opposed to it (as 1960 liberals were) and supporting the war but finding a way to exclude yourself so that someone else (who might die) can take your place.
If you ask me there’s a difference between those who avoid service in a war they believe is immoral and wrong and those who avoid service but still support other young people being sent to fight said war.
Especially when there is a draft involved.
Willard organized events in favor of the Viet Nam war, Clinton organized against the war. Bill got a deferment from his draft board, Willard went off to France. All wealthy Mormon boys spent there mission in England or France — better when mom & dad visited.
Unfortunately not one of Willard’s sons has chosen to serve their country.
their mission….that is.
missionary work is spreading the word YOUR religion…
From one who around when you could get drafted….
And end up in the infantry in Viet Nam….
If you could….
You used EVER means available to keep your ass stateside….
DO NOT let people Bull Shit you about high and mighty stuff….
