About the Latino Vote……

nydailynews

While we talk about the Latino/Hispanic vote being owned by President Obama…..

The piece belows points out the fact that the vote COULD BE much higher…..

Thru distrust of the government in general, less pressure to vote since Obama is in office already, and efforts by the Republicans to dicourage their vote…..

The Obama campaign will be duty bound to work HARD trying to increase that vote……

Although Latinos do not turn up at the polls in the same numbers, relative to their population, as other ethnic groups, their overall numbers are growing so rapidly that they are nevertheless on the verge of becoming the powerful force in American politics that officials in both parties have long anticipated — an effect that would only be magnified should they somehow begin to match the voting percentages of other ethnic groups.

Mr. Obama’s campaign has seized on that as a central part of his re-election strategy, with an early burst of three Spanish-language television advertisements in four swing states, including Colorado, and voter registration drives in Latino neighborhoods.

“Hi, are you registered to vote?” Linda Vargas, 62, called out in English and Spanish to people walking into a public library on the outskirts of Denver as she sat behind a table stacked with voter registration forms.

This segment of the American electorate is by any measure sprawling, with near-explosive population growth in places like California and Texas and growing numbers in swing states like Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Nevada and New Mexico. Their presence in such politically important states has only fed the frustration of Latino organizers over their underrepresentation at the polls…..

  1. Jeb Bush said today that Mitt Romney’s rhetoric during the GOP primaries had him “boxed in” on the issue of immigration.

He also said the Republican Party has become so extreme that his father and even Ronald Reagan would have difficulty being nominated by a party that sees working with the other side of the aisle as a weakness.

I guess Jeb is serious about not wanting to be the VP nominee.

  2. A little background that I’m sure you know, but that others may not….
Jeb Bush’s wife was born Columba Garnica Gallo in León, Guanajuato, Mexico…..
His brother George was the Governor of Texas where a LOT of people have the same background as his brother’s wife….
    If I remember correctly ….
George Bush II made some noise about relaxed immigration rules and ran into a brick wall from his party thereafter….
    As has been said increasingly…
The Republican party has turned so far right these past years …
    That Yes…
No Republican President from last few decades would be able to win the nomination….
    Under THESE circumstances…
Mitt Romney labors to keep it aimed to the right…
And Jeb Bush seems to say….
    ‘No Thank you’

  3. Or ever being the presidential nominee!

  4. not in this GOP climate Jack….
    Nope….

  5. And Mitch Daniels continues with his criticism that Romney has to be more than the anti-Obama candidate. So my bet is that Mitch is not on the vp list.

I do expect Romney to start staking out positions rather than just repeating his old lie that Obama made the economy worse. And then we will be told that Romney always believed in these positions. And Corey will defend that argument – regardless of the position that Romney chooses.

  6. Portman is STILL my guess…
    Shop around
But go with the sure thing…

I’d think dispute the urging on the staking of positions…
Romney is gonna hold off on that for As LONG as he can…
Once he goes there Obama will be able to define him…
And as we have seen for a while now…
Mitt Romney does NOT like being pinned down….
especially since he’s fighting Obama AND the hard rightwing of his party on where he has to be BEFORE election day….
One would think that even with all the hype…
A Romney Presidency would be more moderate than the right wing wants….
Just as an Obama 2nd term will be more in the middle than the left would want….
    Politics IS COMPROMISE
    I can’t say that enough…

  7. I disagree with you on a potential Romney Presidency being more moderate than the GOP wants.

I agree with Zreebs. Mitt is so lacking in a spine that no one knows what kind of positions he will take.

  8. You seem to have a major contradiction here

I agree that the “art” of politics is indeed compromise

But the Republicans have shown precious little of that during Obamas presidency

    Assuming a Romney presidency

I would doubt the Democrats will be any more accommodating to him

    In this case then

Art would not reflect the reality!

  9. On Mitt
    He would be the President
For 3 years he would be able to buck the tide of the right as ALL
    PRESIDENT’s
    Do…..

  10. He,he,he
    WRONG JACK!
    Democrats GIVE IN easier
    As we saw with Obama
