I’ll say one thing….
No waiting around for two months like here in America….
And the austerity thing I’m sure is gonna be cooled off….
usatoday….
The new president left for Berlin Tuesday afternoon, almost immediately after the ceremony, for a meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel — a sign of the importance he attaches to the Franco-German relationship.
French officials told the Associated Press that Hollande’s plane to Germany was hit by lightning en route and returned to Paris as a precaution, although no one was injured. He transferred to another plane, which left soon afterward, AP said.
Merkel has been an unyielding advocate of carving back the European Union’s dangerously high deficits, calling it a necessary step in overcoming the economic crisis that has undermined the zone for four years. Hollande’s inaugural speech, at the Elysee Palace, seemed designed to set the stage for the meeting, his first with Merkel.
“On this day, a lot of people, and first of all in Europe, await us and look toward us,” Hollande said. “To overcome the crisis that has struck it, Europe needs plans. It needs solidarity. It needs growth.
“I will propose a new pact to our partners that will join the necessary reduction of public debts with an indispensable stimulation of the economy.”

Good point on no waiting.. campaigning is shorter for obvious reasons, but there is a bit more action to putting him straight in the chair. More boost from the get go.
But is the eurozone saveable? It seems like an open question…
I know it’s in constitution so our time frame isn’t gonna chane.
I’m sure the two and half months had to do with travel time back then.
But the shorter campaigns and take over time could SURELY save a LOT of wear and tear
On our political system and save HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS
Of dollars!
Actually the two and a half month lag time between Election Day and Inauguration Day is the result of a Constitutional amendment in the 1930′s
Prior to 1937 Presidents weren’t inaugurated until March 4–4 months after the election.
So I see no reason why it couldn’t be changed again as travel times are even shorter now
But with the holidays in December I doubt it will be anytime soon.
Besides it’s not that big of a deal for most folks.
On the EU?
You know Markel is ALREADY backing away from the cut…Cut…CUT
From what I hear from people I know from Europe
The Greeks have been spend worry later since the day
The problem for Merlel
Who has the strongest economy over there IS
If Greece bails
Does the WHOLE thing fall apart?
Unlike the UNITED STATES
We’re talking about sovereign out tries over there
The euro could go in the toilet
And the banks could take a bath.
And we know people could care less about the frigging bankers, right?
Thanks Scott for the info
Why not make the change the day BEFORE
Thanksgiving ?
Ya get sworn in
You have from that Friday till Monday
Hm… interesting thoughts..
Especially the role of banks in this..
Also, I’ve seen this “on the brink” and “imminent collapse” EU stuff for three years straight at least.. lots of shouting “wolf” it seems.. and greece is a tiny economy anyways right…
One might worry more about the younger germans – w less guilt of wwii, and less devotion to the Union.. if they want out..
but..
that sentiment might rather lead to powergrabs on the continent..
don’t know which is worse…
but a happy germany is better than an unhappy one…
nah… greece won’t leave.. thinking out loud..
it has to be a break between germany, france, uk…. they run the show… the little guy doesn’t determine their fate….
I don’t know if count Greece staying…
If they can get from under paying the bankers I’d the ink they’d book….
In the end people are going to help THEMSELVES….
