True Manila
And don’t forget how the losers always wind up in the Super Bowl commercials
Bob Dole for Visa (“I just can’t win”)
Plus Mario Cuomo and Ann Richards sharing a bag of Doritos if I recall correctly.
We can probably look forward to Mitt Romney asking if he can borrow some Grey Poupon during Super Bowl 2013.
One of the earliest American Express “do you know who I am?” ads, I think, was for ex-Cong. and ex-RNC chair Bill Miller, who’d won 27 million votes as Barry Goldwater’s running mate in 1964.
But I might well be mistaken.
No I think you’re right
I remember that one vividly and so believe it was one of if not the first
Miller is probably the most obscure Major party VP candidate of modern times
When asked why he chose the little known Congressman
Goldwater replied”Because he drives Johnson nuts”
Miller was popular with the press though often playing poker with reporters on the campaign plane between stops
His daughter Stephanie is a well known Left wing radio host
Didn’t know Stephanie Miller was related to Goldwater’s VP.
Kind of a shame she has a connection to Goldwater, though.
She’s an embarrassment.
A moron who lets MSNBC and the DNC think for her.
Why?
Because she’s not capable of a rational thought.
There’s not one left wing talking point she’s not spread her legs for.
I never did see the AmEx commercial with Miller, but I remember a high school Trivial Pursuit contest on the last day before summer where that question was asked. Even a political junkie kid like me didn’t know the answer to: Who was the unsuccessful VP nominee who starred in an American Express commercial?
Even now if I was shown a picture of William Miller I probably wouldn’t be able to identify him.
William Miller(1914-1983).

“We can probably look forward to Mitt Romney asking if he can borrow some Grey Poupon during Super Bowl 2013.”
A President doing both a talk show and a TV commercial too? WOW!
Well, Sarah Palin was pretty obscure until the very moment she received The Nod; ditto (if not more so) Geraldine Ferraro, another obscure New York Congress member (and she’d never chaired her National Committee, probably never belonged to it).
