This piece in the NY Daily News points out that Democratic The Nassau County DA Rice, who unsuccessfully ran for the Democratic nod for NY State Attorney General…
WON’T run for the restricted Peter King (R) 3 rd Congressional District seat…
But in the last sentence of the piece, the Nassau County Executive job is mentioned…
She’d have a good chance there because of all the trouble the current Republican County Executive Mangano is having….
We’ll be looking for more on this…..

I blogged last Monday that Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice had been approached by Rep. Steve Israel, head of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, about a possible challenge to GOP Rep. Peter King.
Well, update: Now I hear it ain’t happening.
“Rice isn’t running against King,” a source in a position to know told me.
“She’s got an ambitious legislative agenda she wants to get done and she’s leading efforts to reform the county’s juvenile justice system and its forensic testing practice,” the source continued. “These issues are important to her, and she’s not going to leave them half-done. She’s keeping her focus on the job she was elected to do.”
Rice emerged from a crowded field to become the closest 2010 Democratic primary challenger to Eric Schneiderman, who went on to defeat Dan Donovan in the general election for the office.
Update: And by the way, the Nassau County Dems are going with Vivianne Falcone to challenge King.
Update: And yes, Nassau’s Jay Jacobs, who also heads the state party, is eyeing Rice for a county executive run: “I think she would be a great CE candidate and that she would win. There are other great candidates as well, but I think Kathleen has tremendous talent and potential,” he told me a bit ago.
